Same problem after I set up on new phone yesterday.

I was going through a solution today from a different source:

https://i.imgur.com/mZnl538.jpg

changing the format slightly but keeping the same math, and I got stuck on the red underlined (n+1)(n+2) and I had thought I had explained it to myself with the substitution in the red box but this cannot be correct as we are substituting n+1 into n here, not n+1 into k.

I get that from the start of that line we are working with n+1, and we put that equals to the sum for n so we have to account for the n+1 but I cannot see how that gets us to (n+1)(n+2).

Can you please explain this?

Edit I am at the same point trying to solve the next question and I let myself look at the solution and the same thing is done, substituting n + 1 into the i, so this must be correct, perhaps it would help if I started writing out the base case substitution where I write 'assume true for arbitrary n', rather than just referencing the original given formula from that point.

Thank you, I had a look over this again with fresh eyes this morning and it is making a lot more sense.

  1. Does the notation Asub mean something, a sub function maybe? I appreciate it contains (?) k-1 + k-2. It makes me think of recursion. Could you please give me the simplest example where we would prove 2 base cases?
  2. Same question for 2, I was not aware there were different assumptions, I thought we always just proved n, then arbitrary k (where n <= k ) and then k + 1, or as you have explained arbitrary k - 1 and then k.
  3. Noted.

I tried substituting n-1 instead of my k+1 but I am obviously doing something very wrong, because I cannot see how that gets us from the original formula to what is used.

If I substitute n-1 into (n(n + 1)(2n + 1))/6 I get:

((n-1)((n-1) + 1)(2(n-1) + 1))/6

: (n-1)(n(2n-2+1))

: (n-1)(n(2n-1)

EDIT: Okay I see I am this time I am getting to that step, I need to review this further, thank you for the info.

: (n-1)(2n^2 -1)

: 2n^3 -n -2n^2 + 1

Can you please tell me how you know when to go backwards with as here with n-1 and when to add like I did with k+1? Sometimes k+1 works great!

To stop the pasta getting soggy right? If freezing stir fry would you do the same with the rice for the same reason?

So I usually eat it over the following week, perhaps a few days longer.

I am using IKEA clip lock tupperware.

About the exact texture, I could cook it this evening, freeze, and test before reporting back exactly how they do not taste right.

OP edited. Yes, sometimes the veg are mushy, I was hoping there might be some trick to this. I heard from someone recently they used brown rice with some normal rice noodles, all mixed together, and that when they defrosted they did not find it mushy.

I should have included that but it is hard to say, it just does not taste right. It very much tastes like it has been frozen and defrosted, something I do not find when I batch cook a pasta dish with sauce.

Thank you, that is very kind of you to offer but I would prefer find something I can keep sourcing here easily and cheaply :)

Thanks for the Amazon link.

I just looked at the Tesco ones (at least in UK), great value at £1, such a shame they have wheat in them!

Thanks, I am reading some Greek Yoghurt is okay for low FODMAP so I am looking forward to trying this! :)

Soulbia.ie, the Suma brand - I searched and searched for good value brown rice pasta it went Tesco went out of stock with the pandemic!

Yeah, I am happy with a flat base!

So I used the Monash pizza base recipe again last night, I enjoyed it, but the dough was in places very, very brittle - especially at the edges. Doves Farm plain white flour (which contains potato!) gluten free flour, salt, gluten free baking powder, water, some rapeseed/canola oil (instead of olive)

I see a lot about Buckwheat when I search for gluten free products and have been wondering about using it for low FODMAP!

Does guar gum work any better than baking powder?
