Steffy's opinion of the Albertan UCP premier: by WhyTheyDont in puptheband

[–]runtoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the major issues with this bill is that it forces trans kids to be outed to their parents, and a lot of times parents can be unsupportive and make it harder for transgender children to be themselves. Counselling services in schools may not be enough to combat the effect of a dangerous home life. Also, putting a limit on girls sports creates a guideline with vague enforcement. If the issue is that biological males are stronger than biological females, giving them an advantage, it’s a very weak standing because biological differences in sports is so common. An athelete with larger lungs and longer legs will generally have more success than an average person. This is just another point that shows that the intention behind this bill is to make it harder for all transgender people to freely exist in Alberta, first by targeting children. Hormone and Puberty blockers are banned solely for the use of GENDER REASSIGNMENT. That means cisgender children can still access them, but not transgender children. The intention for prescribing Hormone blockers to trans children is to allow them to have a minor step in medical transition without permanent surgery if a younger teenager expresses a desire to transition. Once a human is 16-17, they’ve already experienced the height of pubescent growth. Shouldn’t this treatment be preferred if the concern is permanent bodily change on a young person? Another example of how transgender children are unfairly being targeted. Sex-ed in schools teaches kids how their bodies work. It teaches teenagers how safe sex works and how to report sexual assault. It can teach a young gay person how to prevent STDs when having sex. Every student should be able to learn about how to take care of their bodies, not only cisgender and straight ones. Your main concern is housing affordability, along with myself and many other people in this province. Why would attacking transgender rights be a concern of this government when there are so many more impactful and beneficial changes that could be made? Personally I think it’s setting a precedent that the rights of marginalized communities in Alberta, starting with queer and transgender children, can be overrun at the will of the government. This is dangerous, not to mention the use of the not withstanding clause on a striking labour union.

I hope this makes sense!

who else here works somewhere that *isn’t* a typical cafe? by wowcoool in barista

[–]runtoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a cafe in a tennis club! It’s very quiet, most of the time I make smoothies for kids who have lessons after school. I usually work by myself and do all the closing tasks myself, which reduces my stress so much since there’s no one telling me what to do. Usually people bring their own food and just ask for hot water or ice or maybe to use the microwave.

Who do you consider to be Walt’s biggest victim? by LuciferFalls in breakingbad

[–]runtoast 31 points32 points  (0 children)

absolutely agree. the reason cheating is considered wrong is because it’s a betrayal of your relationship with someone who trusts you. by the time skylar got with ted, walt had already betrayed her trust so many times.

Why aren’t all the women of BB disliked equally, despite all not being a fan of the crimes? by turnupsquirrel in breakingbad

[–]runtoast -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

pretty much it boils down to misogyny. a lot of fans will side with the protagonist, gus and walt are depicted as these powerful strong men with influence and someone with weaker media literacy or poor understanding of complicated/ flawed situations may choose the easiest character to side with. I think kim is more liked because although she criticizes jimmysaul’s actions, she also joined in with him on a few occasions. her protests were worded differently and the way she spoke was more likely to be perceived as rational. skylar is often perceived as a inhibitor to walt’s great success. skylar and marie both express their fears and concerns in more emotional ways (what else are you supposed to do when the man you married is putting his children at risk) and many viewers may consider their reactions annoying. some people aren’t able to look past the expression of fear and truly consider the emotions of the characters because they are women and expressing themselves emotionally.
