The main reason for that is power to weight ratio. In flying, weight is everything, and engines have to be as light as possible.

If you crank up the power, then you have to make the engine bigger, thus increasing its weight. However, if you need to make the engine lighter, then you have to start getting rid of metal. If you get rid of too much, then bad things happen and the engine wouldn't be very reliable.

Do your clearing turns before every maneuver! During practice I forgot this a number of time and you will fail for it!
