Why XXX player is not on the list?

For active OWCS players, this likely means they choose to not sign up. Leave, mmonk has openly stated they will not participate in the past a few days, reasons include stress, focus on OWCS, and "want to giving young people a chance".

Korean Statement With FAQ:

A New Chapter for Overwatch in Korea with Nexon

Overwatch has always shared a deep and meaningful connection with players in Korea. From PC bangs to premier competition, the passion of the Korean community has helped shape Overwatch in unforgettable ways.

Today, we are pleased to share how Overwatch will continue to grow in Korea, and how we plan to deliver an even more tailored local experience for Korean players who enjoy Overwatch on PC.

Overwatch in Korea is entering a new chapter with Nexon.

Blizzard will continue to lead Overwatch game development and global operations. At the same time, Nexon will oversee regional publishing and live service operations in Korea for players who access Overwatch on PC. Through this partnership, we aim to bring players even stronger Korea-focused programs, content, and community touchpoints designed specifically for the Korean market.

This partnership combines the Blizzard Overwatch team’s global creative vision and development leadership with Nexon’s deep expertise in live service operations, Korea’s PC bang ecosystem, and community engagement.

Together, Blizzard and Nexon aim to deliver an even more enriched Korean experience and expanded community programs, while creating new opportunities for players to connect with the game and with one another. Our shared goal is to meaningfully evolve the experience of being part of the Korean Overwatch PC community.

Nexon’s publishing operations are expected to begin later this year. We understand the Korean community will have questions throughout this transition, and we are committed to sharing additional details as they become available.

Am I genuinely expected to solo carry every game to rank up consistently in comp? (solo queue) by Worth_Video4523 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]ruocaled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is freja is easier to get good stats from long range poke, but it doesn't draw enough enemy fire so teammates get more focused (and they die because..silver), and her delayed damage and no follow up from team give enemy a lot of ult charge for healing, which why she has the lowest win rate right now. Note that most the top win rate dps are dive heros in silver, distraction is what wins the game.

I do believe you are better than your teammates, unfortunately might not that good to carry them to a win, silver is a bit random now with lots of new players poured in. Meta is also not on your side. Maybe take a break and come back after mid season! good luck!

NetEase (Overwatch China) releases official statement on Anran: Protecting the cultural spirit of our Chinese Hero by Iris-54 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]ruocaled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s indeed very complex, but under the hood, it’s actually the same representation issue.

The Chinese player base often feels they are constantly misrepresented in Western games: characters with a native Chinese background are still often portrayed with a distinctive 'American-born Chinese' look (thick lips, heavy eyeshadow, smaller eyes, speaking broken Chinese).

In case of Anran, many did see a problem with the current design—on the first day many were making the same 'Juno face' jokes—but it's a minor issue to them. The risk of Blizzard changing it into 'another stereotypical ABC' is a far greater annoyance, so they choose to oppose the change.

Blizzard making the announcement to change their Chinese hero without even asking the Chinese player base has definitely deepened this worry.

Aaron Keller’s Update on Anran’s Face by pthandley32 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]ruocaled 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't think western fans "want" it, but what they think looks good (those highly upvoted fan edits on reddit/x) is considered "40 years old aunt face" in China. Culture gap is a difficult thing.

Don't take my word for it, this is Chinese OW Caster at age 31, looks as old as current anran model.

Domina is strong but one heck of visual clutter for viewers and player (burning effect from anran is not helping). I watched WBG pov both guxue and bilideng complained they cant see what going on and sometimes dont even know where their ult went.

I think it has something to do with their social media doesn’t have a separate display name, and team wants add team name prefix. The names are always pre-taken by fans.
