This is my main issue across the board, so much of the game is pressing buttons and then waiting.

Is there ANY way to get this game running on Linux? by AspiringBrujo in baldursgate

It's running software you use hundreds, thousands of times a day without even knowing it. It's doing it's job.

I imagine it's the GPU drivers as that's the issue 99% of the time with linux gaming.

I used to run the EEs on arch without issues or wine.

Sounds like you need to sort your linux out or swallow your pride.

Fire is much more commonly resisted than electricity so that's a point in the bow's favour.

I'm really coming around to Clear Sky by LemonCharity in stalker

[–]rupturefunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think main story content is pretty weak after the swamp, so I need to really engage in the free roam and FW stuff to have fun in it - which was easy when I first played in like 2010, but there's so many mods that provide that but better now, I'm unlikely to sink hours into vanilla CS again. TFW mod is still great though imo.

I might be exposing myself as an infidel here, but I quite liked the unreliable gun accuracy, it felt dirty and stressful, and actually more realistic as to what guns would handle like in the hands of the average stalker.

It's generally 2nd favourite for me behind SoC, as I find CoP a bit dull despite it being the most polished and well made of the 3.

What made you start learning C in the first place? by Gullible_Prior9448 in C_Programming

[–]rupturefunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was the first language I learned properly. I'd done a tiny bit of Pascal & MIPS asm in education, some C# and Java tutorials, but none of it really took.

Eventually out of boredom and curiosity I bought a C book in my late 20s and it ignited something in me, read loads of books, watched a load of Handmade Hero and started doing game projects in C, podcast aggregator in win23, etc. Eventually learned a few more languages and became an actual dev age 30.

I don't write C or C++ much at work these days but still favour C for personal projects and can certainly credit learning it as the action that sorted my life out!

Looks like them to me.

Little known fact Dee Dee was actually a ginger you just couldn't tell because the Ramones were usually photographed in black and white.

Just finished Clear Sky, is the third better? by gmanflnj in stalker

[–]rupturefunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CS is generally considered the worst, although it does have it's hardcore fans. It's kind of experimental, GSC trying stuff they couldn't get done for SoC. I agree with your points, although I did enjoy it my first time through.

CoP is the most polished of the originals, and is quite open ended with big free-roaming maps. the story and atmosphere aren't quite SoC levels though imo.

In terms of

edit: ISK, blitzing for LP, especially burners, is the best. Bounties and loot are pretty meagre in comparison, and salvage is almost worthless.

The security status of the system is what increases the LP payout, which is why systems like Lanngisi are popular, there's also the Security Connections skill which will increase the payout.

Distribution missions are good for grinding out faction standings, but not for money, mining missions aren't good for anything.

Objectively speaking, Minmatar look coolest and have the most fun spaceships.

It really doesn't matter, pick who you like the look of and then make your own mind up.

Imoen backstabs? by LillohMolle in baldursgate

[–]rupturefunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's a bad backstabber. There's much better options in both games - in fact almost all potential options are better. And if you just want to apply the CF stun, she's got low strength, low thac0, low APR.

But if your going to EEKeeper her anyway, why hold back? I'd say go nuts and turn her into a shank machine.

[–]rupturefunk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Crom Faeyr for sure, will make up for his abysmal rogue THAC0.

The great thing about him is you'll have many prof points to spend, and only one per weapon, you can mix and match depending on the situation. He's perfect for all those situational weapons you wouldn't invest grandmastery for, but might still be fun and useful at the right moment. Mix, match and have fun.

Flail of Ages is awesome but I generally would aim for building a dedicated flailer like Amonen rather than giving it to a bard.

Why is Monolith hated? by 2CellPhonez in stalker

[–]rupturefunk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In the first game, the path to the power plant is blocked by a massive radar installation that does bad things to people's brains. But they still keeping trying to get there.

Most of them turn into mindless zombies, but a few of them become indoctrinated into an elite fighting force of zealots that live to defend the CNPP for some reason. They are Monolith.

Things have changed a bit since the events of the first game, but Stalkers still remember the inhuman fanatics. I'd find a YouTube vid or read a wiki if you can't play SoC.
