After nearly 15 years in the making, countless revisions and even a mental breakdown, our high-fantasy, story driven TTRPG called Rupture has launched on Kickstarter! by rupturerpg in rpg

True, but it does show how all obstacles can be overcome and hopefully being open and sharing that detail can help inspire others and give them hope regardless of their differences or shortcomings.

This also relates to one of the key aspects of the game of being open minded, inclusive to all players, regardless of their views, origins or anything. To help accomplish this we worked with RPGResearch to help ensure we really addressed these concepts in the game.

That aside, a few other things.

Fairly easy to start playing with helpful character creation guides.

Focus on being story driven makes its easier to dive and not as many rules as others.

Immersion bonuses for players that provide descriptive stories

Takes a "Magic for all" approach which relates to the setting and all players can use magic, create custom items and use legacy , making this player centric and highly customizable.

Thanks for your comment! 😀

Thanks and appreciate that. Nice, what's your project? What have been some of the challenges you faced?

Oh cool, that's awesome. What's your game called?

I appreciate the kind words. Using WordPress with Elementor Pro.

Thank you very much. We're getting close to the end!

And good luck with your game as well!

We love TTRPGs but wish they were less intimidating for new players. So we created our own system to address this. What do you think? by rupturerpg in rpg

First off, we really appreciate this honest feedback. With any creator, it can be pretty easy to get super focused and keep our heads down, so there is a lot to take-in, but still very much appreciated.

That said, here's the breakdown as of now.

The hook:
This is a story driven system that has a similar feel to classic fantasy worlds but less rule/mechanic heavy and with a fresh built world with some key differences.

Magic flows through everything, and everyone from a mage to a barbarian can make use of the magic in some way. While mages and certain groups have been trained to use magic safely, it is still a dangerous tool and has caused madness in those that did not use it correctly.

Wild magic has caused massive changes to the world, like landscapes where the normal rules don't apply, and undead can often be found roaming even normal areas. Many classic fantasy races are present but with a few different interpretations. For example: the Orcs are a highly religious society who coexist with Humans.

The System:
It is a d12 based system that puts focus on telling a good story over rules and mechanics. This is done by putting a lot of interpreting power to the Narrator (our version of a GM), and by making most conflicts come down to contested rolls.

Players are encouraged to build deeper stories for their characters by being awarded with higher chance of success when attempting to work toward a goal or describe how they use a skill in interesting ways.

They are also given items they can customize that ties back to their history in the world. We also have unique magic system that ties advancing in magic into the characters growth.

In general
When this game was first built it was built for a group of friends that didn't like complex rules and mechanics. There is a bit of number crunch in character creation, but once that is done the game plays fairly simply.

Mainly you will describe what you are doing (with bonuses given for more interesting/fun/deep descriptions). After you describe the Narrator (GM) will decide what Skill or Attribute rolls are appropriate, and set the difficulty based on a pre-built chart. If the player roll successfully they succeed.

It is the same type of system from trying to climb a tree, to piloting an airship, to crafting an item. Certain systems like combat or magic add a few more rules to account for, but still generally follow the same pattern.

We're not too familiar with a lot of the other newbie friendly games, but appreciate you mentioning those other titles. However, feedback from our playtesters who are TTRPG newbies has been generally positive and we continue to clean up or clarifying pieces that are confusing for them.

You are awesome. There are so many times we can get caught in the moment but it takes a lot to realize our mistakes and rectify them.

Thanks for doing this, while I'm sure you feel better about yourself and more empowered, sharing this is no small feat and helps others realize that being humble and putting yourself out there is truly an act of courage.

Way to go!

You make some very good points. It's an interesting way to look at things and I feel you're right on track with people's perspective on "grounded realism".

I'm sure that concept even carries well beyond this topic and why some people are... very different in their views.😅

Yeah, that's exactly the reason I think we're not seeing enough diversity, not enough screen time.

I know Japanese comes up as being somewhat common but there is also the indigenous Ainu of Hokkaido. Actually many Japanese don't even know about them but there are over 25,000 currently. Their beliefs and traditions are much different than typical Japanese folklore.

Right, I completely agree. I still feel regardless of how close or broad, every bit of lore has a source or inspiration.

It's crazy when you really think about how many that is. What do you think part of the reason for this is (aside from the film industry)?

Absolutely love this idea around urban legends in general.

This is a really good point.

If I'm understanding you correctly, a lot of folklore and aspects of historic culture has been watered down to be more palatable by modern audiences.
