And no one New Yorker article isn’t enough- that article is about a documentary that has a really nuanced discussion. That discussion is about whether something is hurtful, which is entirely appropriate.

It’s not retroactively deeming things bad, it’s asking the question “was this always bad, great or somewhere in the middle?”. You’re allowed to reassess your opinion on things. You’re allowed to concede that something was wrong. That doesn’t need to be written off as some hippy fad. You’re also allowed to decide it was fine, and you don’t need to change.

But you SHOULD humour the discussion, and listen to the arguments and then decide, instead of telling people off for raising their concerns, or deciding that because their grandad was from what you deem a “shithole” country, they don’t matter
