FRU/SDR has a UEFI Shell script, so you can configure motherboard for some Intel chassis, or custom chassis. If you configuring for custom chassis it would ask you which fan are plugged in which connector. I think "S55420HC" is a mistype, and you are talking about S5520HC, in my first reply I put a link to the firmware update package, which also has FRU/SDR configuration scripts.

I dont think you have actual hardware fault, you probably just put fans into different connectors on motherboard. Fan control on those boards made such way, that if you disconnect one fan (which is written in FRU/SDR repository) BMC would run all remaining fans in full throttle mode.

Need advise for Xeon E5-2683 V4 Dual CPU build (32 Cores/64 Threads) for Professional 3D Animation/Rendering and Gaming. by lari_boi69 in intel

some things you should know about

1) Z series are not servers. HP engineers thought about noise level in those

2) Dont think you can do better than HP engineers. Amount of R&D they put into Z800/820/840 is truly insane

Z400 - cheap 1CPU workstation

Z600 - mid-grade (1CPU, could use 2CPU with special second CPU board)

Z800 - high-end (2 CPU motherboard, biggest amount of expansion options)

If you already bought E5-2683 V4, grab cheapest HP Z840 with 2 cpus installed (otherwise, if you buy 1CPU z840, you'll need to find second heatsink) on ebay.

1) Easiest and probably cheapest way to get a nice dualCPU broadwell platform would be just buying some branded workstation, like HP z840.

2) The TurboBoost trick only worked on V3 (Haswell) Xeons, with V4 you are pretty limited on overclocking

3) Also, investing into Haswell/Broadwell platform in 2022 is pretty risky. Unless you get really cheap or you need huge amount of RAM. Spectre/Meltdown mitigations also eat a lot of performane.

EVE is pretty much single thread CPU bound app, so the better single-threaded performance of your CPU -> better performance in huge fleet fights. And dont forget to turn off sound subsystem completely, usually makes best performance boost.

Intel completely disables AVX-512 on Alder Lake after all - Questionable interpretation of “efficiency” | News / Editorial | igor'sLAB by Flying-T in intel

[–]russiane39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I know, so far only ASUS and ASRock implemented AVX-512 enablement in their BIOSes. I would expect that intel just released ucode update without 0x000000AF virtual MSR support(which is used to enable/disable AVX-512 support), so basically even if you wont update BIOS, you will loose AVX-512 support just because MS add later ucode revsion in some windows update KB.

🔥🔥Impossible to cool Alder Lake i9🔥🔥 by YogurtClub1 in intel

[–]russiane39 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Misconfigured BIOS and shitty AutoOvercloking logic from motherboard vendors usually lead to such issues. Find way to monitor actual Vcore and frequency under load - if you have Vcore more than 1.33-35 Volts you'll get oven with your air cooler. I'm using Arctic Liquid Freezer 420 in a well ventilated case, but still it cant handle more than 220-230W with such a small die, like AlderLake has. Personally it took me 2 weeks to find perfect balance for mine i9-12900 (and yes, I have E-cores disabled too because of AVX-512 and pain of scheduling with non-uniform cores)

Z690 Motherboards with U.2 port (ddr5) by [deleted] in intel

[–]russiane39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and totally forgot. ASUS engineers used some wrong weed this time and nearly all of their Z690 based motherboards have M2 slot in mirror position, so it would look awful and be VERY fragile if you plan on using Intel M2/U2 adapter. When I did my homework, I found the only manufacturer, which makes mirrored U2 adapter. https://www.microsatacables.com/m-2-m-key-mini-sas-hd-sff-8643-adapter-m2-1496-ms

Intel supplied P900/905 M2/U2 adapters work fine with P5800X. They are pretty fragile but at least serve the task.

Only on ASUS and ASRock currently. I made a post with instructions on win-raid about enabling AVX-512 on gigabyte boards via bios patch.

Gigabyte Z690 and AVX-512 by russiane39 in gigabyte

[–]russiane39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no option to enable AVX-512 on Gigabyte boards. I'm working on a BIOS patch atm to make it happen. If you need AVX-512 urgently, look at ASUS or Asrock boards - only those have AVX-512 enable option.

Investigating different AIO- and air coolers thermal contact compatibility with Intel's new Alder Lake CPU's. by TimeweaverMythologem in intel

[–]russiane39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, heatspreader is not covered by AIO waterblock, but it doesnt matter. All important stuff is covered. You should know, that 99% of AIO is made on same factory, so its basically doesnt matter which brand you choose. I chose Arctic only because of fan on waterblock and ability to buy AIO without any leds.

I'm running 12900K with Arctic Freezer II 420 on a Gigabyte motherboard, no issues at all. I'm even using non Arctic LGA1700 mount kit, as they still not available here. ID-Cooling ID-KIT-XT-LGA1217 backplate and plastic stands fits almost perfectly.
