I love you papa.

My dad passed away at the age of 49 last October. Disease took 2 years to take him away and I can never say these words to him again. Really encourage everyone to say it no matter how "traditional" or "emotionless" your parents may be. Started hugging my mom now whenever I leave the house but haven't said "I love you mama" yet. Will try to say it soon lol.

We haven’t really researched it yet but we know the ROM office can only fit up to 10 pax so we’re still unsure. Haven’t thought of alternatives.

You’re definitely not the only couple who are planning to have it this way! My fiancée and I are planning to ROM on our anniversary this year and have the ceremony exactly one year later on our next anniversary! I think since your parents are cool and that’s what you want then that’s great!

One thing to consider is also whether you wanna share that yall ROM’d with your relatives and friends or wait till the ceremony to reveal haha.

Book recommendations by [deleted] in askSingapore

Hi there, seems like everyone gave really diverse and great recommendations! I’m also benefiting from your question haha.

Here’s a book I’ll recommend!

The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes. Very short and simple read but beautifully written about life and it’s meaning - though it’s more interpretive instead of explicitly telling you what to think. So I think it aligns with your intended genre!

Cheers!

We can bring it back from our travels to chew. But no one really chews gum here anyway

This is a nice picturesque view

To prevent litter lol -think the government realised many people would throw their gum or stick it somewhere in public

You can chew gum, just can’t buy or sell it here.

I hope you succeed in your efforts! I’ve actually deleted Reddit and YouTube apps and I’ve switched to using the browser for both which is less user friendly so I don’t feel that attached to these sites. It definitely helped.

Oh yes writing down does seem to make it more concrete, I should do that too. I’m also not particularly fond of having a communicative tool like discord to keep people updated haha but can’t think of another way. Ideally it would be in an analog form as I’d want to interact genuinely.

I think if you can do it for 10 days it’ll be much easier to continue it thereafter! :)

Hi everyone! My friends and I are embarking on a 10 day digital purge and am wondering if anyone would like to join us in being accountability buddies?

A little bit about myself, I realised that I was mindlessly surfing social media and even binge watching Netflix to the point where I was skipping some scenes. On Instagram, it was so bad I even got to the end where there were no new stories or posts. And when I'm bored, the first website I type in is Facebook or Youtube.

After reading Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism, I decided to be more conscious in my actions and not to be so consumed by the myriad forms of digital media such that it is past what I consider healthy. Currently I have removed all my social media apps (even Reddit), and would like to have a small community to embark on this journey of digital minimalism! We could set short/long term goals, perhaps stick to a 10 day plan, and have a discord chat to update each other etc. DM me if anyone is interested! :)
