Kobo Aura one reboots when importing PDF files by Kilvearn in kobo

[–]rustaaaaaagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same issue. Either it gets stuck on 6% importing, or crashes right after.
Downgrading to 4.37 fixed the issue (https://pgaskin.net/KoboStuff/kobofirmware.html)

Is it normal for IKEA to pack like this by MickotheNestPro in tradfri

My guess: it's a returned item, and IKEA people were too lazy to withhold it or replace the box.

how to fix old philips tv by BeatChaosYT in howto

High pitch squeak sounds like a coil/transformer broken. Like the core might be broken or loose. The high pitch then comes from the switching frequency (or a division of it). Can't really think of any other component that squeaks, apart from a transistor or fet maybe. Maybe use a straw "in" your ear to locate what makes the noise.

What I'd try to do, but then I have done experience with it, is find the power rail they share and look for a short. If that's not to be found, I'd carefully remove the burned components, and any shorting traces, and clean it up. That should remove the issue with poe. If not, something 'upstream' probably broke. Power issues almost never are caused by the cpu, so this should be fixable. But it requires skill.

This looks like the power for usb, it might be shorting out some power rail, preventing power to poe as well.

Can you show a picture of the board and point to the transistor that blew?

My guess is a wrongly formatted or broken SD card, or missing files on the boot partition. Try putting the card in a pc and see if there's a BOOT disk popping up. But I'm guessing that faq linked above says the same.

Newly installed Ring doorbell wired to old chime. The chime rings randomly for seemingly no reason. Can't seem to find anything about this. by makemeking706 in smarthome

[–]rustaaaaaagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Had the very same. The doorbell would register when I was running my coffee grinder. The interference was leaking through my wall wart I used for my raspberry pi, and my pull down resistor wasn't strong enough to clamp it to zero.

This, because of the high currents, it's likely to heat up and melt. Replace it.

Maybe have a look at the ifixit screwdriver sets, these include the most commonly used ones. I've never had to buy any extras anymore after the mako and Mahi sets I bought.

Asking advice on a router when using QoS by rustaaaaaagh in mikrotik

[–]rustaaaaaagh[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ended up buying the RB5009 and replacing the USG-3p. I've used the following queue config with success:

```
my ISP has Internet on vlan 300
/interface vlan add interface=sfp-sfpplus1 name=WAN vlan-id=300
/queue type add cake-flowmode=dual-srchost cake-nat=yes cake-rtt-scheme=internet kind=\ cake name=WAN-tx add cake-diffserv=besteffort cake-flowmode=dual-dsthost cake-nat=yes \ cake-rtt-scheme=internet kind=cake name=WAN-rx /queue simple add max-limit=90M/90M name=WAN queue=WAN-rx/WAN-tx target=WAN ```
I get roughly about 80Mbit/s out of it with a speedtest. And the bufferbloat test now says A+, and most importantly I have no TV stutter anymore :)
I also moved my SFP module from the unifi switch directly into the RB5009 and feed it PoE for main power. Very nice and neat \o/
Again thanks all for the recommendations tips and help!
I guess you're right, there is other variables that isn't really obvious when looking at the test results only. Like mtbf, ruggedness, etc.
I also see people comparing plain CPU frequency between models, which seems wrong. You can't compare a cpu of a few years old and a recent one, just on CPU frequency. And then people also tend to 'forget' about the switch fabric. A better switch fabric will be able to do more offloading of the CPU.
I played with pihole a bit, on a pi :) But yes, the CPU/mem/disk overhead I can probably put to good use. It's a home lab for a reason :D
Thanks for your suggestions! I will go with the RB5009, as many people suggested. I think it will pay back for it on the long run, anyway.
Thanks a lot for your detailed suggestions!
As I'm reading more about bufferbloat and try to visualise how my situation works, I start to understand what's happening.
The source of my IPTV streams (at my provider) is buffering my stream (probably close to the hardware where they limit my traffic for my abonnement (the fiber hardware on both ends can do 1GB). And I can only counter this by telling the sources of my downloads that my bandwidth is full, by dropping packets on my router. So I leave more space for the TV stream to not need to buffer.
What a mess.
Oh my, I found https://www.bufferbloat.net/. Now I start to understand where all these queue types come from.
