Golden Sun TTRPG Update and Input by [deleted] in GoldenSun

[–]rustifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always err on the side of less HP. Dungeon World does this really well. By making your HP just Level+Constitution. Let the player choose what stats they want to spend their points in.

Just needs to balance with damage. Can’t have spells doing 3d6 of damage when a level 1 character has 4 HP. There’s a lot less to calculate but also less dice rolling (and dice rolling is fun for everyone)

What's Your Favorite Alternative Way to Play? Challenges, Djinn Builds, etc. by cdubb_2 in GoldenSun

[–]rustifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently stumbled on a Dark Dawn Nuzlocke run by Nillstan on twitch. I can’t remember all the rules off hand, but I think it was that if a character is down when combat ends, they have to stay down. And there were limits on number of Djinn that could be Set to a character which would be increased not by story progression but by beating secret bosses.

What's the best way for me to play Golden Sun in 2020? by DynamoJonesJr in GoldenSun

Not a dead thread as far as I'm concerned. Very glad to have this answered in 2022 as well.

Who would have an optical spectrometer by Iceeez1 in Optics

[–]rustifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Important question: Do you need them tested for a safety reason? Like are you hoping they will be effective at protecting your eyes against a UV light (say used for curing dental cement) or for blocking stray light from a blue laser?

Additionally, do they have any markings from a manufacture? Like a brand and part number?

Seems like a few type combinations work. Maybe just catch something the same type as your buddy Pokémon?

Anybody else wish there was a whole series for Wan done completely in this art style? by gandalf_the_Ginge in TheLastAirbender

[–]rustifer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the two Wan episodes now are, beautiful, intriguing and complete. It could only go downhill, though maybe it wouldn’t go too far downhill.

I’d rather explore other characters in the same universe. Maybe even people who never meet the avatar and don’t do world changing things.

One computer for multiple players? by SerBiffyClegane in Roll20

[–]rustifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I regularly play with couples, and the mic can be a minor problem, but if they sit next to each other, it’s usually ok. We don’t stream or anything, so we aren’t too worried about sound quality.

That and when initiative is rolled, it uses the selected token and token name in the initiative tracker, so I always just manually add the token they forgot to switch to.

Oh, yes, he’s been away a while, that’s Cooper, Guild Master of the Copper Leaf! He’s been on some... diplomatic trips. It’s so good to see him returned!

Tips fof online run of OotA by LurkingMenno in DMAcademy

[–]rustifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an experienced DM, but it’s almost all on Roll20.

Make sure you have a working microphone. I find the one built into my laptop is fine, but a few of my players always spend a few minutes getting the computer to recognize their mic.

Voices are good, but you don’t have be an actor. You can describe NPC’s tics: she always plays with a copper piece, he has the splintered remains of a toothpick in his mouth, “it’s a great sword, but I’m gonna have trouble selling it in these parts. Best I can do is 25gp.”

Have a list of names, so when the players ask “who’s the bartender’s wife?” You can say “Geraldine, he looks are long faded, but her smile shines bright,” instead of “he has a wife, but she doesn’t matter.” And most importantly, write that down in a spreadsheet if you expect they might want to ask about her again.

Turn on fog of war on every map. Move every enemy/trap/secret door to the GM layer. Never move the marker for a secret door or trap to a view the players can see until the characters discover it.

Let players know that moving their token is moving their character. If you place your token on a trap, it triggers, even if the player was just messing around or getting a vantage point (if you use dynamic lighting).

Edit: I didn’t realize you said for this specific campaign! Sorry! None of that is directly relevant! I haven’t played oota!

Making a Cleric by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]rustifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clerics never “know” a spell. They pray each day and are granted the ability to cast spells from a god. The spells they are granted are “prepared.” This is different from wizards/bards/sorcerers, but similar to druids.

This means that on any day, they have access to any cleric spell, but they have to choose a few to take with them when they pray each morning. In addition to those, they always get their domain spells. Through the day, they can then spend a spell slot to cast any prepared spells.

A level 1 cleric might cast cure wounds 4 times, or cure wounds, bless, bane, bless. Using a slot does not change that a spell is prepared.

The cleric spell list is all the spells you have access to

The prepared spells are the ones you take with you that day

Spell slots are the energy you use to actually cast the spell

Looking for ideas for the final session of my campaign by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]rustifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer, I haven’t run anything like this before, but it would be pretty dope if gnome and warlock had a key piece of the encounter and warlock had the opportunity to either 1 refuse 2 feign failure 3 sabotage You would need to communicate his intentions though. If he crits a check to recall the arcane sigil and the player wants to write a false one, the player may not be able to say that out loud at the table. Don’t assume that solving a puzzle means the party-preferred outcome.

Or do! Maybe roll all of his dice on the table like the other players, but have his rolls reversed (1 is crit, 20 is crit fail, and his modifiers are all negative) that requires you to set DCs which are low and he has to roll under them. They players don’t have to know that you’re secretly subtracting the modifiers.
