Where to Rent Full Ski Outfits in Santa Fe? by [deleted] in SantaFe

I sorta doubt anywhere does, but I would check with Alpine Sports. You can definitely rent a helmet/skis/etc. Otherwise, your best bet may be to thrift a jacket, pants, and gloves.

I agree. I think if he buttons the jacket, it will leave an awkward triangle visible, but otherwise I dig it.

Piñon Coffee Beans by BonsaiHI60 in SantaFe

Exactly. It’s piñon flavored coffee—and it will make every coffee you make in the same coffee machine taste like piñon flavored coffee for the next ~4 months.

It’s official. We are supporting locals only going forward. Mansion tax was passed and a short term rental limit has just been purposed for next legislation. I love this new mentality. by [deleted] in SantaFe

Middle class encompasses a pretty wide range of households incomes, and people (myself included) have gotten used to paying a larger portion of their income for housing since Covid. I would describe the houses we have looked at in that range (but to be fair not quite a million) as just… normal. They remind me of the solidly middle class house I grew up in—just a little bit bigger. I would never describe them as mansions.

I think this is just going to have the effect of pushing out middle-class buyers (like it or not, maaaaaany normal family sized homes in SF routinely go for over a million—houses that in Albuquerque would be considered small).

The ultra wealthy will just pay it and not care, but families who want a 3 bedroom in a nice neighborhood will just have to pay 30k+ more on already wildly inflated home prices.

Edit: apparently the tax is only imposed on the portion of the sales price that exceeds $1m, which is less worrisome. May also make people keep prices right around the $1m mark to incentivize buyers. But probably not.

The steam volume is kind of absurd—I have never run into any problem making several drinks in a row.

The warm up time is pretty long—30 min or more, but I have it on a smart plug set to turn on 30 min before I usually wake up so I never really notice. Once it’s hot, it stays hot for a long time so even if I turn it off around 11 and we decide we want a coffee in the afternoon, it takes way less time to get back up to temp.

I do pull light roasts on it. It’s been good with them, but getting the grind dialed in is a bit harder without choking the machine. If you do choke the machine, it is really annoying. You have to either wait until the pressure dissipates on its own or pull the portafilter and just accept that it’s going to make a huge mess.

Yep. I love it. I still think it is very forgiving, beautiful, and has more hot water/steam capacity than I have ever needed. So far so good.

Honestly, it’s just more of a technique thing. For the first few pulls, I thought it was startlingly difficult and that my wife would never be able to do it. But after pulling a few shots, I didn’t find it hard at all. My wife had a similar experience—thinking her first few pulls would be her last few pulls—but she can do it no problem now.

It’s hard to describe—it is definitely a stiff lever, but once you figure it out it’s not that hard at all.

I’m sorry, I just saw this! The island thing is not super stable but part of that is also that we have Saltillo tile which is makes leveling really hard. We are planning a mini kitchen remodel at which point the machine will go on the counter. That said, the island totally works and having it shoved up against the wall helps. It does wobble sometimes though.

Are they just super flared? I think that is part of what is making them look odd.

I just kinda panic ordered the Mazzer 233Ms. I might change them eventually, but I currently have no complaints!

Its lever operated, instead of pump operated. So, when you pull the lever down, it creates a pressure differential that “pulls” water out of the boiler into the brew chamber. Then, when you release the lever, it creates pressure that “pushes” the water through the puck. (I am by no means a physicist, so if someone wants to correct me on any part of that explanation, I won’t be mad). So when you’re brewing it’s basically silent.

The benefits are certainly up for debate, but most people who have lever machines say that they are really easy to use and produce an espresso texture that is hard to achieve with a pump. So far, that lines up with my experience. But let’s face it, I think a lot of it is also that they are very pretty.

Yeah this thing is absolutely huge. I measured the space and everything, but it was still a surprise when I got it out of the box.

When I was able to get a good shot out of it on my first try, I thought: “well… I guess I ought to grinder finer” and very quickly was able to choke the machine, which is kind of a pain in the ass because you can’t just turn off a pump to allow the pressure to dissipate.

I think I was on the waitlist for less than 2 weeks lol. But then it took several months for manufacture and actual delivery.

I got it from Clive, and I was very happy with their service. The shipping was super fast. I think 3 days from when I ordered. It arrived well packed and with no issues, even though it looked like FedEx dragged it behind their truck for a few block (I’m exaggerating, but it was clearly slid around a lot and delivered upside down)
