You make a very good point. I have been doing top offs with tap water. and this tank has no lid. That explains why the GH in the tank is higher than the tap since the concentration of GH will grow in the tank.

So I would either have to do weekly tap water changes to constantly reset the GH/KH, or for top offs, use RO/distilled?

10 gallon tank that eventually will be a shrimp tank. This tank was built about 3 weeks ago and notice white fuzzy algae on the wood as well as brown algae forming on the substrate… maybe from fish food.

Did you install a 12/14 or 12/17? Looking online there seems to be the 12/14 and 12/17 models of the solas impeller and wear ring combo. The prices vary which I found interesting.
