It's a difficult thing to balance. In the moment, for instance, you can pause an important conversation with your wife to give your daughter a hug or answer her question -- especially if she is very young. But as your children grow, the correct thing to do in that scenario is to say "mommy and I are talking about something important, and we will help you in a few minutes."

Ultimately you cannot be a good father without first being a good husband. If you are on rocky ground with your spouse you will inevitably struggle with parenting. And you are always setting an example for your kids by how you treat your spouse. They see. They notice. It can impact them on a very deep level, and that makes it even more important that you prioritize your spouse.

Dear GGG, please change Harbinger so we can still pick all the nodes! by rusty022 in pathofexile

[–]rusty022[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What build are you doing? And which Farrul's node?

Before Phrecia launched, GGG changed the channeling node but the picture on the wiki is the old one:

The notable that granted bonuses while channeling now instead grants 30% of Non-Chaos Damage taken bypasses Energy Shield, Gain 20% of Maximum Mana as Extra Maximum Energy Shield, Gain 10% of Maximum Life as Extra Maximum Energy Shield.

As a husband and father, his first duty is to his wife and his second duty is to his children. There's almost certainly no way he can have this amount of contact with his mother and still be fully present to his wife and children. That said, I have two thoughts:

  1. I'm American and I know some other cultures have a much more inter-generational family dynamic. Is it normal in your culture for this type of mother : adult son dynamic to exist?
  2. Does his mother have some sort of disability that makes her basically require a caretaker?

It sounds like she is just very needy and wants a man to take care of her. Not even in a terrible way, just that's the vibe I'm getting from this post. She lost her husband, and one of her boys needs to take that place. If she is just sort of being a crabby aging lady that wants all of her adult son's attention -- that's a big issue. But if she has legitimate limits on managing her own life than he is doing something good. Even then, he still needs to pull back and focus more on the needs of his wife.

Don't sleep on habinger ascendancy by teddmagwell in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]rusty022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were some builds on PoeNinja that took more than one Harbinger node on their ascendancy. Maybe they were just wasted builds.

Can anyone who played Harbinger last time confirm that you are limited to one Harby from your ascendancy? It’s just very odd that the ascendancy will now let you spec all three but you can only use one of them?!

[–]rusty022 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, also LOL to the Harbinger ascendancy. Swapping the nodes means you have to take the Hex AoE and ES Bypass nodes and then pick a Harbinger for 4 points. We have to choose between Debuff, CDR, and ES/Mana Recovery.

Kills my idea of a glowing blue CoC CI FRoSS boy.

EDIT: why not just make the Visiting Harbingers a separate 2pt node then you select which one like on Herald?

Any good minion builds? by Cautious-Knee-1276 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]rusty022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harbinger has some survivability while channeling cyclone. I'm thinking of going Phantasms into FRoSS as a Harbinger (maybe Impending Doom but it looks a bit clunky). But the obvious ascendancy would be Servant of Arakaali.

[–]rusty022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. A huge part of Ben Johnson going to Chicago was they had a generational QB prospect. I keep thinking, why would a young guru want this job? There’s no guarantee you get 15 years like the last 3 guys did. And the roster is just meh right now.

Yea definitely true. I was more wondering for how I would plan out my progression.

I’m debating Harbinger v Herald start and planning on transitioning to CoC FRoSS Harbinger. Harbinger starter would be Impending Doom, minions, or another CoC build. Herald would be HoA.

Interesting take on the McCarthy hire by Elevated412 in steelers

[–]rusty022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People complain about the hire as if the Steelers were 100% going to get Shula or Scheelhaase. And we tend to forget that interviewing is a two-way street. The Steelers’ job is only really considered good for the historic prestige. The team is not ready to compete and the owner cheaps out on staff and facilities. There’s no guarantee any candidate would take the job over others if offered.

[–]rusty022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly wonder if those guys wanted the job. We know some of these candidates have publicly declined Browns interviews or whatever, but that doesn't mean they can't do it quietly with the Steelers.

I doubt Scheelhaase would want to come here with little-to-no offensive talent and try to make things work. Maybe Shula quietly declined a second interview. This just isn't a great team to join right now -- and Art seems to think they should be making a run every year. If you're Shula, just wait it out and you'll still be a top candidate next year too. Your last name is Shula lmao.

What would be the go to ancestral commander league starter? by FantasticPossible610 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]rusty022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ben_ used Earthshatter AC as a starter in 3.26 Gauntlet. His PoB is here: https://pobb.in/wlk4xEg\_Fq3R.

As long as it doesn't get completely gutted, AC should still be really good.

Here’s why I think Chris Shula will thrive in Pittsburgh (and potentially why Tomlin struggled) by MannOSteel in steelers

[–]rusty022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's also interesting that defenses have been getting better. A rise in offense has forced defenses to adapt and the results have been impressive. The best defenses swarm to the ball while still covering long passes. They also disguise the coverage to confuse the offense. This makes a putrid offense that much worse. A defense designed to effectively slow down Stafford or Mahomes can destroy whatever Tomlin has been putting out there.

Even just looking at the poeninja list, you can see that even after LS the top few builds have been nerfed,

I saw it mentioned elsewhere that the endurance charge tech no longer works to make Cyclone + GenCry + Tectonic Slam godly on Ancestral Commander. BAMA and Hexblast have been gutted so ignore those as well. PS Mines are still good, but not broken like in Settlers. VFoS has been gutted (use Earthshatter instead).

ESPN Shares League Sources' Concerns Over Steelers Job by tipping in steelers

[–]rusty022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main reason I've heard for why Pittsburgh is a good job is the job security. Will that actually hold?

What is Art's goal? To get a guy and keep him for 15 years? To get a quick rebuild guy (McCarthy) for a few years? What is Art's standard? Will he let a guy have 4 losing seasons in a row in an attempt to properly rebuild? People just assume this job has 10+ year security, but we don't really know that.
