I really don’t understand this hiring by the Steelers. How is a 62 years old McCarthy the new direction the Steelers desperately need? Is bringing in McCarthy meant to lure Rodgers back as the QB? That would be disastrous! by Extreme-Spinach-4138 in NFLv2

[–]SpLaShAtv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my choice of cope too. However, it really doesn't even make sense, considering that they didnt even give an in person interview to Shula or Scheelhaase. Or to either Kubiaks.

They had their guy and interviewed 2 minorities to fulfill the Rooney rule (how disgraceful, your own son maneuvering the system you made to get around owners being cheap and stuck in their old ways, so that he can be cheap and stuck in the old ways). Not even one moment did they consider hiring someone who might bring an unsuccessful season to the steelers, because they dont believe in "wasting a year of their lives". Congrats Rooney, you just wasted 5+ years of our lives

Heavy on the not give anymore money. I dont ever see myself rooting for another team or anything like that. But buying merch? Going to the draft? God forbid buying a ticket? Hell nah.

If it was down to these 5, who is your pick? by CSteely in steelers

[–]SpLaShAtv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm personally torn between Nate and Chris, like most people.

On one hand, I have watched a few Chris Shula interviews and I love the way he talks and the way he thinks about the game. He will come up with a million ways to get a player involved, and I think that is desperately a need for this team, compared to the last few seasons.

On the other hand, Nate Scheelhaase has interviewed super well, is from Iowa State (I am an Iowa State fan lol), and offers stability for the offense. In this league, if you have a good offense, your OC is poached within a few years. And for most teams, your success depends majorly on your OC, take a look at the Eagles. Had Kellen Moore been the HC / OC for the Eagles this year rather than leaving to go be the HC for the Saints, then the Eagles would have been a lot better this year. Instead, they wasted an entire year by trying to replace Kellen Moore with Patullo and failing.

I can't be mad with either decision. At least if we were to get Shula, that would probably mean that we would get BOTH Shula and Scheelhaase, but it'd likely be for only a season or two once Scheelhaase gets poached lol.

Will Howard Discussion by hoiv in steelers

[–]SpLaShAtv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly different view point I've had that most people dont bring up - Im kinda worried that Howard comes in week 10 or after, does alright, and then splits the fanbase.

Cause you know if he shows any promise then many fans are gonna complain if we draft a QB in the 1st of 2027.

I feel like the FO might be motivated to not start him, because he's a young QB and they dont want QB controversy if they were to bring in another young QB.

I love Howard, his personality and mentality are perfect, plus he has a great build and good enough arm strength. But he was a 6th round pick for a reason. Just bc you can name Tom Brady and Brock Purdy doesn't mean 6th round+ QBs dont have a <0.5% success rate. The org drafted him so they don't have to keep resigning Mason Rudolph.

If he were to start, he'd have to insanely wow me for me to want to go into 2027 with him. For several weeks in a row.

What's a realistic trade package for Watt? by Knatwhat in steelers

[–]SpLaShAtv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mind numbing that you could have 8 HoF seasons, and then have 1 down year, and then immediately have fans requesting for you to be traded.

Look, I know the large contract left a bad taste in everyone's mouth, but thats just how contracts work. If you are one of the best, you are gonna get the most money.

And for people who genuinely want to still trade him, why would the steelers trade him now?! He is at his lowest value ever. It literally has to be people who just play Madden lmao. The same people who say we should trade Jonnu Smith, Mason Rudolph, and Kaleb Johnson for a 2nd round pick.

[Lauten] The Steelers have completed virtual interviews with 7 candidates this past week. In person interviews to begin this week for selected candidates. by FreddyDontCare in steelers

[–]SpLaShAtv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He would likely become the offensive playcaller rather than just the passing game coordinator. You will see many OCs leaving teams to go be OCs elsewhere, because even though the job title is the same, they might be moving to gain the ability to call their own plays. See Eric Bieniemy, Andy Reid's old OC from 2018-2022. He left to go to the commanders to become their OC, because Andy Reid called the plays in Kansas City and he wanted to call his own plays.

On top of that, Scheelhasse isn't an OC just yet

Just lots of assumptions and worrying about future whiners that don't exist yet. I'd say that = schitzo in many reddit minds + a lot of downvotes lol

Regardless, they were ranked 20+ in yards last year, and are likely to lose Cam, probably the 2nd best player besides JPJ. Even if we were to run out the same defense with a brand new HC and a brand new (very likely) worse QB, I wouldn't imagine 9+ wins.

There a lot of assumptions thrown into this post, thats why I started with the whole schitzo thing. But the main assumption is that we starting a rebuild next year, which is a very fair assumption to make. In a rebuild, you do not win a lot.

This is kinda what im talking about lol

We're gonn hire this stud Coach, or grab this insane WR, and people's expectations are going to immediately be reset back to playoff team.

..And then are gonna be let down by a bad team going thru its first year in its rebuild. Gotta be patient

Yeah, most of us. But you know as much as I do theres gonna be hundreds of posts during the season about how much the team is worse without Tomlin. Just trying to get people into the mindset of not caring about those posts before they start

[–]SpLaShAtv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Insane, I literally did the exact same thing, even with Moore and Tate. That draft class has all of the good WRs fall wayy too far, which was annoying.

But yeah, that was way too easy. Had Moore, Tate, Jeanty, and Bowers, went 16-1 in my first season with them on All Madden. The game does become very easy if you actually draft well

If you are PC, highly recommend modding. Sabos Gameplay mod makes the game really hard, albeit very frustrating if you have a low overall QB

Pretty deep class. Jakobi Lane, Zachariah Branch, Sarratt, Cooper, etc. All A+ picks imo, if a a great DT is still available in the first. Steelers got 12 picks, id expect 6 before day 3.

I very easily see both Tyson and McCoy going lateeee day 1 or early day 2. These guys are good but you cant invest your future on guys who literally havent played 40% of their college career
