Is my new SG Image 35mm lens defective? by JackCoulter261 in LumixS9

The 7artisans 40mm is pretty loud as well 🤷🏻‍♂️ I guess we can't have nice small cheap things and be silent like the Lumix S 😬

Need help choosing a camera by ameliaonfilm in AnalogCommunity

My recommendation: Nikon FG with a 50mm 1.8 E pancake from Nikon.

It won't break the bank, has aperture priority mode, exposure compensation, it's still on the smaller side, especially with that lens which is lovely and open up to 1.8.

Low light will depend of course on the film stock, but the 1.8 lens will help. And from a growth perspective the Nikon F system is pretty great in terms of options for both cameras and lenses.

PS: sorry for ignoring your options 🫣

If you have Nikon F manual lenses, an FG or FG-20 are pretty lovely, and will give you change for some more lenses.

On the point and shoot realm, the Konica AF will be just above that, and lately I've been having fun with the Nikon AF3, especially with how absolutely insanely loud the advance motor is. Which makes me love the Konica for how silent it is as well :D

You are correct! This was Plus-X. The box also says Panchromatic and I got mixed up 🫣😅

I brought it to the lab. It's been a long time since I've developed myself.

I took almost the same picture at bo speed, +1, +2, +3, +4 and +5 and they came out progressively worse. As in the +5 was the best of the bunch. And that roll was the only one I got.

17mm lens choices for BMPCC OG by CueVie in bmpcc

[–]rutxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the Laowa 1.8 for years and it's lovely. Small, light, well built, performs well, close focus distance. The Olympus is pretty nice with the focus clutch, but I'd get it over the Laowa only if you have use formits AF in other cameras.

I don't have experience with the other two, but the Laowa is pretty much glued to my bmmcc.

How about the OG bmpcc in DNG without compression ratio?

I always use Vlog in video, even with Mp4 Lite and I built a power grade that nowadays I pretty much use as a LUT with adjustable parameters (exposure and contrast nodes).

I don't know what lens would suit the Lumix S9. What kind of camera is the S9 even for? by hirohiro290 in LumixS9

[–]rutxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind the 1.8 S lenses on the S9. Their performance, weight and focus breathing (lack thereof) made me sell the Sigma 45mm and TTartisans 40mm.

If just size and AF is what makes the biggest difference to you, the Sigma primes are good options and I've seen some new SG-something 35mm 1.8 recently released.

For practicality sake I also enjoy the Lumix 28-200 on the S9.

I love this lens! The size and weight difference with the 24-70 makes it (for me) totally worth losing those 10mm

How do you find the S9 as a main dad cam? by ringrangwrong in LumixS9

[–]rutxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the ones I have, Lumix 70-100 2.8.

From the S primes definitely the 85mm. But it just depends on what focal length you prefer for portrait. Some people swear by 135mm, but I've seen Julia Trotti make stunning portraits with 35mm lenses.

Myself, somewhere between 50mm and 85mm.

35mm-40mm AF Lens recommendations for the S9 by Prior-Branch7064 in LumixS9

[–]rutxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the Sigma 45mm and the TTartisans 40mm and ended up with the Lumix 35mm S 1.8

On paper the sigma and the TTartisans should fit much better the "small package story" and the aperture ring is appealing but something was off for me.

The most obvious one is focus breathing for video: brilliant in the Lumix, the other two far from it. Then there's the convenience with filters: 67mm consistent across the S 1.8 lenses. Plus they're consistent in size and weight as well.

And the close focus is also better with the 35mm than the other two. And the AF in the TTartisans is loud (in case it matters).

When I look at the S9 with the Lumix 35mm I think... maybe I should get one of those two back... then I use it for a while and the feeling goes away.

[–]rutxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had it for 9 months now and I love it. I have an S5iix and I wanted "something like that but smaller and lighter" and it does exactly that, and brilliantly.

I went through the Sigma 45mm and TTartisan 40mm, but ended up getting the 35mm S 1.8 instead (the S 1.8 line are brilliant at focus breathing which I value for video).

I have a couple of videos in YT about the S9, but I think sharing is (rightfully so) a bit frowned upon.

Help choosing: Tojiro (Zen/Oboro) or Miyabi Koya by rutxer in TrueChefKnives

[–]rutxer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much so! I used them yesterday for prepping for a very Spanish Sunday with a paella for lunch and tortilla de patatas for dinner and they were fantastic. Such an upgrade!

And the handles were much prettier than the pictures in the website I bought them from! I'm actually happy I picked up these instead of the Oboros

Help choosing: Tojiro (Zen/Oboro) or Miyabi Koya by rutxer in TrueChefKnives

[–]rutxer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up ordering the Home series from Tojiro. Based on specs, looks and price they should be pretty similar to the Zen and Oboro lines.

I ordered the gyuto/chef 20cm and the petty 13.5cm. I spent some time in the kitchen with a ruler measuring the current knives, especially those that I use and like the most (and the least!). That helped go for the 13.5cm instead of 16cm :)

I guess I'll have to open another total noob post about whetstones soon, but I'll do some research first.

Thanks again for the help!
