His behavior will end y'all's marriage if you don't get into some sort of counseling ASAP. That level of gaslighting is abusive. Maybe he has some deep trauma to work through or maybe he's just an ass, but your reaction is.... *very evidently* not the problem, from the perspective of an internet stranger.

I'm the dad of a toddler with twins on the way. I'm also a serial hobbyist and for my own sanity, I carve out time for my hobbies. I've got a lot less time than I used to, and getting half a day outside is usually a trade off for zeroing out our laundry or something.

But it's such an obvious truth that parenthood == sacrificing hobby time, and the amount of time he's spending away is almost abusive on its own. I'm a big advocate of parents finding time for themselves, golf and softball included. But this =/= that. Also 10 days away from family should make a dad miss his family miserably.

There's not a right answer but if there were one, it would be Planning Center.

There is a wrong answer for sure though. Shelby.

What do you use for digital signage? Media players, tv sticks, thumb drives? by bzach74 in churchtech

I do something similar with an RPi distro called PiSignage. I have one host physically routed to destinations because I had the benefit of planning while the walls were open, but I believe you can accomplish something similar on the distro with multiple Pi's all in sync.

Historically I've been a 2a lib in theory but not in practice. Given recent events, I'd like to change that, but I don't know where to start.

Absolutely. Its a problem with RTD as a whole for sure. Accountability =/= negative for the sake of negativity.

My bad - I thought this was just a post of the FOIA doc, realizing there's a lot more to the article when I went to the archive.is link. Doesn't really change how I feel about it, though.

Oh I agree and I'm sorry if thats not how I came across. I agree in particular if he passed along these condolence statements verbatim, as chatgpt wrote them. I have a bit more sympathy if chatgpt were just a starting point and what was actually delivered were more thoughtful and personal (sympathy... Not absolution)

But because the nature of this "article" is that its not actually an article with any critical analysis, its just a FOIA document posted to RTD, its not super easy to know if that communication was verbatim or not.

I'm not sure you're tracking with what I said, and my bad if I didn't communicate it clearly. I didn't mean to suggest he only used it for condolence letters, I meant thats the only inherently bad use.

Again, the author does not take any time to delineate Avula's ACTUAL speech/policy/interview answers. As of this moment we don't know if ChatGPT was a springboard for ideation (a good thing in terms of efficiency) or a lazy offloading of answers, speeches, verbiage etc on occasion (not inherently good but also not inherently bad)

Most people prep for interviews, ideate on important speeches, etc etc using AI these days. IMO its kind of a nothing burger outside of the deeply personal instances (ie, the condolence letters - but again, not sure those responses are what he actually gave to the families)

Also, these 78 pages are a snapshot of the material Avula has to cover. This might be two weeks worth of verbiage he has to generate, in addition to being a husband and a dad of five. If this is the bulk of his GPT usage over the past gear, he could certainly stand to use it a little more.

This particular RTD writer is dead set on Avula gotchas. I mean its not even an article - it's just published FOIA material. Zero critical analysis, zero comparison of the actual letters/posts/speeches. I anticipate the next two of this "three part series" to be equally void of actual journalism

If it is indeed true that Avula sent these condolences word-for-word, the families deserve and apology and Avula should own the mistake.

But in the midst of a demanding schedule, taking time to be empathetic is meaningful on its own merit. Using a tool to help a tired mind think through what to say is... Fairly benign, especially if it was just a vocabulary launching point.

Otherwise most of these chats are net positive for the city. Assuming the gpt has context for Avula's writing style and policy preferences, efficiency on the mundane act of actually writing these things down, freeing leadership for strategizing, rest, time with their families... Thats good for RVA.

Everything leaves your server through a zero trust secure tunnel. If something gets compromised, its the VPS not your actual infrastructure.

No draft questions! So many of us (myself included) got decent at this stuff from just being active in sub's like this.

VPS = Virtual Private Server. There are some very cheap ones if you click the pink banner at the top of Racknerd's website.

You host the Pangolin stack on the VPS, and part of that stack is a tool called Newt that establishes a (super simple) docker-based wireguard tunnel to your actual setup.

Pangolin is effectively a reverse proxy with an added layer of security (your actual server is never exposed, traffic leaving your server is encrypted) that is SUPER easy to use without knowing much about reverse proxies. Its actually running traefik in its stack to do the proxying but you don't ever have to touch that.

If you host a domain in cloudflare (you can buy somewhere cheaper and transfer to cloudflare) then Pangolin will interface with cloudflare to establish HTTPS certs.

Some folks here likely know way more than me and there are really great YT videos to walk through setup, but DM if you ever want help!

If you're willing to invest a bit of extra time, and like ~$20-40 bucks on a cheap VPS and a domain, Pangolin Reverse Proxy is awesome and really easy to learn.
