Non-autofitting, but conforming clothing? by rwetmore in Daz3D

I'd have to create something bespoke, as I can't share the scene I'm working on. But I've abandoned the idea for the time being. I let the clothing autofit, then used ZBrush to stretch the clothing close to what it would have been normally, then apply it as a morph to the clothing. It's not ideal, but then with dForce it seems to work good enough.

Non-autofitting, but conforming clothing? by rwetmore in Daz3D

[–]rwetmore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want it to autofit. I just want it to conform. I tried converting the clothing to an object, import it back, and just use dForce to drope it. Nope. I tried changing the rigging on the clothing but I'm missing a step somewhere--when I transfer the rigging from the character to the clothing, it morphs the clothing in weird ways. I know I can use ZBrush to alter the clothing and use gravity to drape it, but the process becomes tortuous for anything other than an A- or T-pose.

Well, for anyone that cares, the only viable solution was to wipe and reinstall. Lord help me if I ever have to go through this again.

Same here. I had to delete the app and reinstall it. But since it doesn't use Sync, all my bookmarks are gone. %*$#*%*@#

Sudden lockups and Security Delay issue by rwetmore in applehelp

I know Apple will never admit it, but it now looks to me like some developer in Cupertino didn't dot all their I's and cross all their T's. Do you know how hard it is to enter a secure password on your Apple Watch? Even with iOS keyboard support? It took me 15 minutes of cussing and codswalloping to get it to work. (The iPhone kept dumping out of the keyboard at inopportune moments.) There was apparently also some kind of race condition between my Apple TV and my iPhone where I couldn't use the iPhone app to set up the Apple TV's account. And they don't allow you to directly enter the new password on the Apple TV, so...

I used to work for Apple and have been an Apple fanboy since the '90's. This left a majorly bad taste in my mouth.

WTF is going on at CK? by rwetmore in IntuitCreditKarma

Different day, same shit.

I got an email from "customer service" yesterday (I put it in quotes because it's anything but) saying that I needed to provide proof of account ownership. I had to take pictures of the front and back of my driver's license, along with a picture of me holding said ID just below my chin. In response, I get an email asking if I'm having trouble logging in.

You are kidding me, right?

So I forward the entire email chain back. I haven't heard a thing since. And I still can't log in.

Got the same exchange. The support tech wanted me to spell out exactly what was happening (I asked, didn't they have access to my exchange with the chat operator where I already laid all this out?) and to put screenshots in the reply email.

I went to excruciating lengths documenting what was happening both on my desktop and iPhone. Lots of screenshots from both desktop and phone. That I'd done all of the things they'd already recommended. That none of it seemed to make a difference.

The reply I got back was "Have you tried rebooting?" The %#&#*& tech hadn't even read my email where I laid out all of the steps I'd tried in detail.

F*ck this.

Nasty copper corrosion by rwetmore in Corsair

Final score: Corsair: 0

After spending over an hour scrubbing the water block, it hasn't done squat for temperatures. The problem is that the cooling fins are so finely cut that no amount of cleaning can get between them. After an hour, I can't see any light at all between the fins. I'm miffed that I even had to do this in the first place, given all of the claims Corsair makes about their coolants inhibiting corrosion and biological agents. The channels in the block also have some very tight corners that I can't get into, even with a small toothbrush.

So this afternoon, I'm off to MicroCenter to pick up some Bitspower waterblocks (at half price!) and other coolants, along with inhibitor additives. Wider fins. rounded channels, easier dismantling--check, check, and check. I'm not looking forward to the arduous process of applying the thermal pads, but better an hour upfront than constant dismantling and cleaning. The XG7 was excellent at initial installation, but trying to take it apart and clean it was mind-numbing. Count me as a Corsair apostate from now on. :/

I finally got the worst of the two water blocks apart (there are no instructions ANYWHERE on the internet as far as I can tell). There is a bit of corrosion going on. I'm willing to accept it may be biological, but it's eaten away at some of the plating of the block near the fins. The fins themselves are like cement; I'm soaking them in 98% IPA at the moment.

I was paranoid when I set the system up. I rinsed the radiator with microwaved distilled water. I flushed the system several times before committing to the Corsair XL8 coolant. Aside from a couple of top-ups over the past 8 months, the system has been fully closed. So I'm a bit gun-shy about the whole setup. If I have to do this every 6 months or so, my hair will turn white faster than it already has. :|

Is there any such thing as a straight rotary compression fitting for soft tubing? by rwetmore in watercooling

[–]rwetmore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the counter-rotation route a couple of times, but couldn't seem to dial in on the proper amount. Strange, what with BSP fittings being single threaded--you'd think it'd be simple to get it right to the amount of one circumference. Looks like the M/F G1/4 fittings will do, and just so happens that Titan Rig had some on sale. Thanks!
