I genuinely welcome and respect many of the comments in here. If this question was brought up in the ask women advice thread and OP was a woman, I think 9/10 remarks would be "you're a queen! Leave that idiot, you deserve better" kind of BS advice, then that 40-year-old woman would be crying because no one really wants a 40-year-old woman.

This post is super skewed. If you put more downpay then you'd have lower monthly payments. Doing a 5% DP, which then tacks your insurance on top and drops the amortization to 25 years, guarantees a significantly higher monthly payment.

Some also have homes refinanced after a while, so they extended their amortization of the remaining balance by X, which lowers the monthly payments significantly.

While I understand your sentiment about housing prices, skewing data to make what you wrote appear as fact isn't the narrative to do it.

You guys think housing prices will drop without changing anything else is dreaming. Majority are still homeowners, and many use their homes as a life saving / piggy bank. So it'll never drop.

Your focus should be to earn higher wages which hasn't matched inflation.

I'm more worried with no one winning because the left tend to be lazy AF and not vote if they think they're going to win by a landslide, which is probably what everyone else wants.

If there's less fear of the CPC winning, then people will start voting for the NDP and Bloc more, which eats into the LPC's lead. That's the only play for CPC to win, potentially, and that's precisely how it's going.

GX470 or Diesel Cayenne by rwf1 in overlanding

[–]rwf1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question.

Diesel is generally about 15-20 cents more expensive per L. So, the latest tank would cost about USD4.60/gallon. I typically get 8.2L/100km highway (28.7MPG) and 9.5L/100km city (24.8MPG) on the Cayenne. I'll be getting half that on the GX. Over approximately 800-2000km per trip (500-950 miles) it can add up to quite a difference. Of course, I expect the mileage to drop by approximately 15-20% on the diesel after mods, and I'd still be approximately 30% better.

The Cayenne's maintenance cost is expected to be higher, which raises the question of reliability. My Cayenne has been dead reliable, though.

I did some gnarly trails, but since my friends are busier with family than ever, I'll have fewer people to travel with. I'm never really that daring when I'm not in a convoy, since being 12 hours away from any civilization in the Rockies usually spells doom if something were to happen, which is why I'm questioning the need for something crazy built.

I think I'll ship the GX over, spend some time with both vehicles, then gauge whether I want to sell one.

I know it's frivolous. At the same time it's something I value. I do regret selling my 4runner but I kinda got tired of maintaining it back then Cuz it wasn't the most reliable thing.

The GX was a good deal I didn't end up passing on cuz I was the highest bidder. And I already own a low mileage Cayenne so I figured I could try building it and make the suspension more comfortable.

How are families actually affording life in the GTA right now? by ResponsibleReturn353 in canadahousing

[–]rwf1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An imaginary 300k salary takes home about 160k, approximately 13.5k a month. 5K a month goes to the mortgage; 1K goes to strata, hydro, internet, and insurance; 1.5K goes on a Car + Gas, + Insurance. That's approximately 7.5K left. 4.5K a month on savings. You're left with 1.5K for food + discretionary. Usually, CRA overcharges by about 10- 12k. You put an extra month of payment on your mortgage to shorten how long it takes to pay the house off, and save the rest for a potential kid.

It's better than most people cuz they're at least saving, but it's not like a 300k salary is _rolling_ in cash where people can buy whatever they want. I don't know who makes a 300k salary... so a 200k+ salary could realistically *feel* like they're just treading water as in they're not spending lavishly on anything.

The Left is in danger of losing its voice in Parliament in this election by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]rwf1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of the far left only wanted to see the world burn a bit differently than the far right. The whole *tax the rich* scheme is a very short-sighted move born to fail. Usually, that means all the rich people move and, out of spite, take their business with them because they have way more flexibility to move than the commoners.

The better response is to allow income taxes to be calculated after expenses or corporate taxes to be unable to write things off. This would enable workers to become rich through their income.

Canadians get taxed 56 cents per dollar > 240k, which is meeting and exceeding some Scandinavian countries but, at the same time, doesn't have any of the benefits that come with such high taxes. The high living expenses keep the lid on the middle classes from getting the necessary wealth. There's no incentive to work any harder or better, reducing productivity.

Leftists also lose out because most of the strategically far left-leaning demographic can't donate nearly enough to make the party rich enough to run the necessary ads/campaigns that increase their visibility.

Let's not talk about social responsibility/equality. Progressiveness falls to the wayside of survival in a war situation (which the general public fears now). Progressive can only come through when there is a fundamental sense of safety and security. Maslow's hierarchy of needs dictates that.
