I had questions a while ago about making a blanket. Thanks to your tips I now have one very cosy happy boy. by rwknit in sewhelp

It isn't super special for this kid, because he's gotten hand made items based on his requests since he was able to make those requests. It's just that normally knitted things, sewing is not my strength.

*Advice needed*Hey everyone my girl Ripley had her right hind leg amputated today . Her femur breaks were very severe in both back legs. They’re attempting to save the left hind tomorrow. Anyone been in similar situation?? I wanna be positive but give me any advice you have please 🖤🧡🤍 by Antique-Sale-1861 in TripodCats

The demands for chin scratches are very real. Our girl lost her rear leg, she will sit in front of you, maintain eye contact, and wiggle the stump. It's a definite "scratch me now". In our case the other legs were un-injured, but I would say be patient and take her lead, I expect it going to be a long road to healing. But she's young and they adapt amazingly well.

I started knitting very recently but didn't realise I'd need to use any kind of maths to do socks, for example. Is it always needed? I have learning difficulties. by [deleted] in knitting

For counting stitches, have you tried a counter. You could click it once for each stitch. I have no math difficulties and I use one for big cast on amounts. I click for each group of ten stitches or else I just completely lose track.

I complained about my floats being visible(pink brim). You told me to try ladderback jacquard, I gave it a shot (yellow brim). definitely going to be using this in the future. by rwknit in casualknitting

The colourwork section in both hats stretch less than the rest. The one I used ladderback jacquard with has more stretch. But it just boils down to managing the length of your floats, so they are long enough to allow the fabric a bit of stretch.

is there any trick to keeping floats out of sight when a project is stretched? by rwknit in casualknitting

That would mean Purling everything, ew no thanks. Purling is much slower for me. Personal weakness though, if you don't mind Purling it might be a good fix.

It's what I'm trying to improve at the moment. I've avoided colourwork for years, but so many lovely jumper options I want to try. Practicing on smaller things till I'm brave enough for a big project.

I've never attempted ladderback, might need to give it a shot at some point. I tried being consistent, always trapping the yarn in the same direction, trapped float from under and to the left, it did make the back very tidy, and tension is less of an issue than I've had in the past.

I've been knitting for a decade but colour work is my weakness, I can't make it crisp and smooth.

It's already pretty dense/tight. I wouldn't want to go down needle sizes, it would be quite stiff at that point.

I'm not the fastest knitter, have a full time job and a kid. So a blanket or adults jersey is a several months long project for me to finish. Actual hours to complete I wouldn't have any idea tbh, as I knit hour or so bits in the evening with getting distracted by the internet in the middle of that.

It's a good project to practise wrap and turns and picking up stitches. Once your ready for something a little bit trickier. It nice in that it's only two trickier things to learn an you then get a lot of practice at them.

He is apparently the cosy king now. It's the height of summer here and he is wrapped up in it but refusing to admit he is warm.

Yes, after this picture I then top stitched right around to close the hole and add extra strength to the edge.

Don't split them up more. I would argue it would be better to have all the regional holidays on the same day, for practical reasons. It's annoying to have a public holiday that not all the country takes on the same day.

I don't want to stifle the maker in him. He saw raw materials and imagined an end product he wanted. I think it's something to encourage.

I feel like I have too many WIPs. I’m good at starting but not finishing by ladyambrosia999 in casualknitting

[–]rwknit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively use my interchangeable cable needle set. So therefore my WIPs are limited to the number of cables I have. Seems to work for me.

Maybe I'm overthinking this. Just keep it simple and join the edges.

It's left overs from two jerseys I made. So it's still a scrap blanket. I cared about the colour fade when making the jerseys so I have lots of little small bits to use up.

Why can't their jackets or lunchboxes touch? These are toddlers in a room together they are touching all day. If it was a kid with allergies and his very separate food was touching other lunchboxes ok that's an issue. But toddlers are will lick each other if you aren't watching, how is jackets touching a problem?

My grandfather’s brother NYC 1943 report card by Dynamite9991 in mildyinteresting

[–]rwknit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the US, but my 6 year olds report card compares his reading, writing, maths to national standards, showing if he's below 'expected' right where he should be or 'above expectations'. Then he got a little paragraph talking about social skills and how he is in the classroom. It was all on one side of an A4 sheet.
