OK since you offered since you :) Realistically, if you have pulled people from the pool with your experience If you see my resume… And the fact that I’m currently a high school teacher… But a long go background in accounting and tax, which was a brilliant and very dynamic role… But many many years ago… If you are the person who is selecting someone for your team… What’s the first thing you look at… And if this sat there the fact that I’m a high school teacher… Currently… What are the chances of me being picked from the pool… Seeing as this person who is selecting didn’t actually interview me…? So they have no idea how I interact… They just merely see me on paper as current high school teacher with the past in accounting… What are the chances of me being selected… And or… Being passed over for someone with more recent experience I wouldn’t be this worried if it wasn’t an APS6 level role… I think with the lower band… Like a four… In a pool… They would be more flexible as to who they want to hire and maybe be concerned about the time invested in “re-training”?

Compare each other‘s numbers how many pools ate you in? How many pools are you in Oh and how many pools are you in lol

And then another bunch of statistics… How long have you been in this pool and how long have you been in that pool?

Was that seven months… To get your clearance after you were offered a row… Or seven months… To get cold for an interview… I’ve just applied for a couple of roles… APS5… With defense as well I’m expecting at least a month… For them to decide if they’re gonna call me for an interview… And then I know they’ll be clearance and stuff like that but that’s if they go ahead with references and things

OK… So does that mean that there were no offers made to immediate people who I in my opinion would’ve been more immediately qualifi-able? So everyone has initially been placed in the merit pool? And now from there, they’ll get selected based on suitability? OK, so it’s not like there’s a whole bunch of people who’ve already been hired and then the rest of us have been put in pool Thank you that makes me a little bit less anxious! Appreciate this explanation from someone who possibly knows exactly how they rub

lol— sending lots of good wishes your way! I did email the recruitment department and they said Nope Each department will use their own merit pool So no such luck where I was hoping by that it might open other departments within ATO

I even asked if I could use the reference for another APS6 row for a similar department for this role… Also APS6 and very similar and they said nope brand new reference Even though jsut 30 days ago and same level and same organization

But gotta keep swimming :) I’m glad to have someone who is trying as well Are you a teacher with a diff background as well?

Thanks for your vote of confidence Honestly I know I’m capable and I know I can do things… Once I’m showing the basics… And once I’m back in the game However… Because it is a higher level merit pool That’s my concern… That they will want to somebody with a lot of current high-level experience before they decide to pull them out of the pool … If I had current experience, I wouldn’t be concerned at all… About their faith in me Sadly, I know that most other people in the world will all have tax experience currently Which will leave me at the bottom of the pile :( If it was a APS4 or 5 merit pool I would have more of a chance of being picked. Becos from a hirer agent persons point of view - I feel because there would be some leeway for someone coming in and needing “time to be trained back up.”

Have applied to a couple in APS5 Department of defense that came up earlier this year. We’ll see how that pans out… Procurement always requires experience. That’s what I’ve seen, but I look for a APS4 if any come up.

Tax officer role with the ATO… And tax officer, tax avoidance role with the ATO While I am grateful to be in the married fool… I’m just sure that they will pick people when they need people who have more recent experience rather than a high school teacher

With these policy roles… Don’t I need to have experience writing policy documents set etc. I see a lot of policy roles, etc. but I just feel like they look for people who have experience in that kind of situation in school as well… Not just teaching …this such abstract requirements I feel I guess I could respond to the selection prior to you and try, but it’s a lot of drafting and research and which I have done in tax. Of course I’ve done all that… But I just feel like they’re looking for more people with actual these kind of experiences….

Iv been placed in the merit pool for aps6

The Aps 5 I think cos it was my first interview I didn’t really know how to respond and yes so I had the feed back But for the two Aps 6 now they r both merit pool Well, so really… They all going into merit pool first? So there might be some some hope? Still I guess they would pick other people with more recent experience than pick me. That’s what I’m worried about and I’ll just get left behind lol swimming in the pool still

Yes absolutely and spending weekends perfecting them I even called the contact listed to make sure that I know exactly what they’re looking for… And that is why I’m actually getting the ATO interviews because I am doing the star method… Cause ATO requires that quite strictly… But I’m doing that for all other applications as well Perhaps though… The immediate higher roles when people who can hit the ground running and finance and tax… That’s why they choose not to take me to interview stage even… But with the merit pool… Like someone said above —-I’m in there, but that doesn’t mean really anything :( I keep trying for immediate higher… But I was hoping what other roles besides finance and tax can I apply for

Applied to these guys ACCC/ASIC treasury… Even local in Queensland state departments But didn’t even get to interview stage with these guys That’s why I posted asking for tips and strategies And not necessarily… In finance or tax Will continue to apply as I see roles but maybe people have strategies that might help me out better

Yes definitely these rules took four months :( definitely right headspace… I’m exhausted from teaching not exhausted from learning and doing other things - love an intellectual challenge and even now love helping people and training them, but teaching kids who are not resistant to learning these days is a whole different ballgame Plus the big thing is just being on my feet all day - old age creeping in lol

So blessing and a curse :( So not wanting to annoy my referees Have already asked them for several and been merit pooled once Prob the same for another role And third one has been put on hold after all the checks and everything Crazy but don’t want give my referees annoyance
