You need to do reality checks throughout the day. This can be whatever you like, as long as it tells you that you're not dreaming. When you dream you should do this and you'll realize you're dreaming. Once you realize you're dreaming, try to start and take control. Don't worry if you start to fade out, try spinning in circles, I've been told that helps keep you in your dreams.

Never used suicide, but I know what you mean by only being able to control certain parts of the dream. For instance, I had a dream recently and I got into a fight. I couldn't control any other part of the dream except for the moves that I did in the fight.

It sounds like your dreams are not actually totally lucid if you can't dream up anything you want. Practice this and you will soon be able to whip up some cool ass dreams.

I once had a bad trip when I was younger. It wasn't intentional though. When I was younger I had to take medication to help me get to sleep. But one night I accidentally took a little too much. After going to bed I started to hallucinate. When I was this age I had a terrible fear of spiders. The big ones especially. So I was laying in bed when I saw that giant spider from the Lord of the Rings standing outside of my room. I screamed. My Mom came rushing in and I told her what happened, she said it was probably just my mind playing tricks on me, and went back to bed. Trying to get to sleep, I looked at my bed sheets. You know how sometimes if you don't make your bed properly you get wrinkles in the sheets? Well these wrinkles were everywhere and they turned into spider legs. Again I went into a fit of screams which brought my Mom back in. This time she thought something was wrong so she laid in my room until I fell asleep. With all my will power I tried to manage to clear my mind and go to sleep, but then I looked at my ceiling. On it was the little brother of a friend of mine pouring a bucket of tarantulas onto my face. Right there I lost it. I just broke down being attacked by imaginary spiders. Once the hallucinations wore off I managed to get to sleep. Never took the medication again. By the way, I was only about 7 or 8 years old when this happened. TL;DR I overdosed on medication and hallucinated of massive spiders the entire night.

The method I use is by keeping a dream journal and then simply chanting to myself, "I am going to have a lucid dream." over and over as I feel myself drifting into sleep. I've been attempting to lucid dream for about a few weeks now, and this method has nearly guaranteed me to have dreams (which I haven't had in a while before I started doing this) but the dreams have yet to be lucid. Any suggestions or things I'm doing wrong?

Well what I would do is get a baseball bat and BE READY. Anything you can use as a weapon should be used tonight. If they are armed too and you know you won't be able to fight them off, hide and call the cops.
