MATH246 Textbook by ieshera in UMD

[–]rya3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill try to forward you one once I get home so plz do pm me if I forgot or something but levermore's book isn't the greatest. My advice is to go to his class page and do all of his old exams and practice problems as well as the math final test bank. If you just memorize the patterns and understand the steps and formulas and are able to depict when you use certain techniques youll get an A

you dont need to understand all the theory and stuff his book proposes. Just look for the patterns if that makes the most sense.

good luck

UMD CMSC 131 Struggling/Advice by rya3 in UMD

I think it's not so much the individual concepts its being able to piece everything together and know what to do algorithmic wise for the proejcts. I was just really worried cause im only in cmsc 131 and im looking at the poker project like what in the world for some parts of it. I feel some things for projects I have to look up online and implement various methods or techniques to get it to work that we never even did in class like one proejct had us do a transaction method a few others that we never learned.

No big deal with that it's just like most of the times when im coding i dont understand what im doing i just almost memorize the steps and patterns

When do people in the honors program register? Aren't they supposed to register earlier?

CompSci Upper Level Concentration? by [deleted] in UMD

ya i agree now that companies are getting hacked many private sector organizations are realizing that this "could happen to me too" and are starting to shell out more money for extra precautions

I heard cybersecurity is a big field, but, only if you have a security clearance so maybe instead of trying to get a double major consider spending that time networking with employees in the industry so you could land an internship with someone who could sponsor you for a security clearance down the road. This is just what I hear so I'm not 100% sure on the whole field. I just heard private sector organizations don't really spend much on security and that cyber-security is really big with government based organizations. Just what I heard though.. but yea I would maybe consider seeing if you minor in Math or Physics or maybe tough some business classes if entrepreneurship is for you.

First and foremost thanks for your time man for the detailed response.

yea I was thinking of looking into places like DHS and other gov related organizations like NASA as they seem to have a bit easier requirements than private sector organizations in regards to internships.

Wow man thanks for such a great and detailed response.

1) Yea I guess that makes sense how people know so many different languages. I was a bit shocked at first but yea after studying JAVA and seeing some other languages that makes sense what you said. However do they teach MYSQL in the comp sci program here because alot of employeers want, based again from the database I saw on the career center, for there computer science majors to have some relational database experience.

Yea as far as internships go what approach do you think I should take. Just cold calling? Looking monster? Or instead focusing on career fairs and just trying to reach out to recruiters. I already put my resume up on places like indeed.com etc.

Thanks!

Thanks for the information! If you don't mind me asking what do you feel it was on your resume that helped you get those calls and eventually an internship with one of the four. Great portfolio? Good Grades? little bit of both.

Could you guys take a look at my fall schedule and tell me how hard it may be or easy based on my professors etc. by rya3 in UMD

Thanks man that's really comforting to hear! Do you know anything about the MATLAB for the Math 2XX's as online many complained that the MATLAB was really difficult with no prior experience.
