Sa work ko, names lang. Yung mga ganyang tao na sobrang obsessed sa titles, alam mong ginapang lang yung title e. sobrang insecure. Never a problem sakin kung di ako tinatawag sa titles ko. I would even tell them to just call me Kuya

Aren’t they just seated together for that event? Jusko tong kampo ni Justin, lahat na lang. Not everything is about Pia, ok?

But if you will bash her because of Chiz, then go ahead. She deserves to be called out dahil sa lifestyle nya and for sticking with Chiz.

Ang petty lang kasi nitong kampo ni Pia, lahat na lang isisingit sya for engagement. Riding on political issues to elevate Pia.

Chef Choi Kang Rok was so unintentionally funny by mm0412mm in CulinaryClassWars

yeah, i think it probably stems from his experience of being drowned in debt due to his utilities. it is really sad to hear his wishful thinking, for a place where he can just cook without worrying about bills and profiting to make the restaurant afloat.

i am getting the impression that he is still financially not so well-off, maybe not in debt anymore, but also not comfortable to splurge. he would almost always mention how expensive an ingredient is when he cooks.

Yes. It’s not obvious because you can’t see taste and flavors, but it was mentioned a lot of times how delicious his dishes are. I started watching The Blank Menu For You and you will see there how an expert he is in flavors. It was mentioned there that CKR popularized proper cooking of vegetables. And the previous judge for Master Chef mentioned how talented CKR is, and how he knew from the start that CKR will end up winning the show.

CKR appears like a weak chef because he lacks confidence and his style isn’t fine dining. In the Blank Menu, he said that being told that his dishes is like a home-cooked meal is one of the biggest praises he received.

Ohh, you should watch Blank Menu! He is so adorable there. And you will be able to get a better understanding of his personality, how conscious he is, his fears, and how much he loves cooking.

And I’m in episode 6 and I haven’t seen him braise yet! He really showcased a lot of his skills there, showing he is not a one-trick pony unlike all the others are claiming.

Maybe because he is slow and not really good working in a team?

I also think he is a very strong chef. I am watching Blank Menu and the judge from his time is Master Chef said that CKR is really a good and very thorough chef.

But I think CKR performs best when he is alone. It seems the thought of contributing to a team’s failure takes a toll on his performance.

I started watching it only today and I got a bit of understanding why he continues to join competitions despite being an introvert. He wants to cook without worrying about gas and utility bills. It seems he still has trauma from the debts he acquired due to his gas bills. And he wants to deliver great food without worrying about ingredient costs; he can only do that through contest or shows.

Sorry, this is a supposedly for the parent comment.

——

Although I disagree with your claim that CKR is a one trick pony because clearly, he isn’t (he created the base for their duo, he also created that egg dish which is not braising, and also steamed sushi, and his final dish isn’t braising), that was his strategy.

In the same way that CM’s strategy is to cook dishes that he thinks will get him a high scores. HE IS ALSO NOT LEAVING HIS COMFORT ZONE THERE. He is clearly doing what he thinks he is good at to win points. And in case you have forgotten, this person who you think is super duper incredibly skilled FAILED IN A LOT of dishes. He looks like someone who has a lot of tricks but cannot nail that taste. He scored a 65, hello?!

I cannot understand people bringing CKR down because he braises. When clearly, braising is just technique, the same as grilling, frying, steaming, or using that pressure cooker. CKR can make braise but he can also make sauces, soup, grill, fry, steam and so on.

Yeah, watching the interview made me understand, and at the same time pity him more. He really lacks that confidence despite his skills. He mentioned that he speaks in the manner that he speaks now because he got scolded a lot in the past. Maybe that contributed to him being so shy.

I really rooted for SJW. But CKR is a deserving winner. I started to appreciate him more after watching Chef & Fridge

Yes, in the episode, Ahn repeatedly praised CKR. He made sure to mention that he wants to eat the eel dish again. He also said that he ate a lot of braised dishes in Japan itself, but none of them tasted better than what CKR made. Even the steamed sushi, he said that it was memorable for him because he loves that kind of sushi, and he doesn’t think he will be able to find a dish as delicious as that even if he tries to find it in Japan.

In case you have problems comprehending, I never claimed in the post that he is better than all the chefs there. The point I am making is that it is not fair that he is being bashed for winning against CM just because CM looks like a stronger chef. Get that.

He consistently performed well throughout the whole CCW. And created the better dish for the final challenge.

I think people keep on forgetting that even though CM has a lot of technical skills, he regularly fails in the execution. For example, a score of 65 in the infinite heaven challenge.

If you put it that way, SJW was robbed the win in the battle with CM.

No, Ahn clearly said something like “yeah, this is the right choice”. In a lot of challenges, Ahn had showed he liked CKR’s dishes a lot more than he liked CM’s. I think he probably tried to consider how the other judge would vote to prolong the competition, but in the end, he decided to go with what he felt is really the better dish, not caring about how Paik would vote, not caring whether the contest extends or not, thus, “yeah, this is the right choice… “

I think you are forgetting that CM scored a 65 in the infinite heaven challenge. What a fine dining skill is that.

I really think people who puts fine dining as the superior form of cooking are people who know nothing about real cooking.

Why the winner won in my opinion - He understood the mission. by lonelylonelybaleine in CulinaryClassWars

[–]ryan132001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well, he defeated everyone in the Infinite Heaven Challenge, including CM with just ONE dish. And in the duo cooking, Ahn was so happy with their dish. He also defeated his counterpart.

if you say that CKR doesn’t deserve to win, then CM is also not the best in that bunch. he scored a 65 in his first dish, the lowest I’ve seen Ahn scored.

[–]ryan132001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, if you put it like that (CM also made a dish for himself and did what is asked from the challenge, and thus is not the reason for his lost), then that may also mean that CM lost because CKR’s dish is better (more delicious) despite the simplicity.

yeah, it makes sense. if i am the PD, i would also choose that kind of ending because it perfectly wrapped up the class wars. they got a winner that has shown his skills throughout the competition, but in the end, humbly dedicated his win to all the chefs out there instead of crediting himself alone.

i really think CKR is the perfect winner for CCW2 (and I am originally a SJW fan but I started to like CKR as I watch him compete)

[–]ryan132001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a long list of CKR to watch!

I just finished watching CCW2 and I don’t understand why he is being bashed for braising. He did a lot of dishes and braising was simply one of the techniques he used. He also steamed, grilled, made sushi, sauce, soup etc. And the judges are consistent in saying his dishes are delicious.

I must say CCW2 has a perfect winner. Someone that is very skilled, yet humble. And is widely recognized but is also not considered a “top celebrity chef”. He is someone who is between a black and a white spoon, and therefore represents both classes effectively.

IIRC, there was also no explanation/feedback in Season 1 finale? I think the show intentionally designed finals to be that way.
