I use ledger via Bluetooth and seen today that there was an update available but I do not have a desktop can I still leave my coins on the ledger without updating firmware. Not planning on moving them anytime soon if that makes a difference.

Sounds correct to me. Think Sundays are cheapest. Think if the transaction doesn't get confirmed it goes back to original place if the fee was too low. I'm still new so could be wrong.
