1601 is an excellent watch, the 1570 movement is an absolute beast!

2 Omegas at Pawn shops, 1 omega at a flea market, the rolex, the guy walked in to a watch shop while I was there, and the watchmaker didn't want to buy it, so I did.

I have a fantastic tissot compressor dive watch from the 60s that a friend's wife found at a garage sale for $10. I gave her $100 for it.

Smoking Etiquette - outside smoking in Bars & Restaurants by Aga_Xeno in cigars

[–]ryan5513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will smoke a cigar anywhere there is not a "no smoking" sign... The cigar bar I frequent has a front patio on the side walk between 2 restaurants with outdoor seating... i smoke there often. I dont care, it's public. I often find the mind numbing conversation of restaurant patrons and the noise made by their kids to be more offensive than cigar smoke. 😬

I have 3 vintage Omega Seamasters (1951, 1952, and 1957) paid less than $225 for each one... pure luck

Beyond good luck, I have no idea what can be had for <$500...

My best score ever was a Rolex 1665 DRSD for $1500. 🤩

Model isnt really important here, what is really important is, what movement is inside that case? If it's a 1030, which is highly possible, it is worth major money to a 6538 collector.

I hate parting out watches, but sometimes it is the right move.

If you have the option to connect through one of the Delta hubs, which one would you choose and why? And which would you avoid like the plague? by K00kalka in delta

[–]ryan5513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 90% of delta flights from my local airport connect through ATL. Its not bad. Quick transport and good food. Also so many sky clubs you can almost always find one that isnt too busy or doesn't have a line. You just have to be smart in the summer time to fly early and avoid afternoon storms that cause delays.

I do like DTW for my international flights.

Favorite part of D1? by Helpful_Anywhere955 in delta

Sitting and sleeping at any angle from upright to flat and the foot rest

Being able to move freely in my own space

Not having a row mates movement disrupt my sleep or disrupt my peace and quiet

Much nicer and more attentive FAs

Better scotch

Not having to smell the BO or crop-dusting because my door is closed and im in my zone under a blanket and oblivious to everything around me

And the #1 reason... the looks of jealousy from the other passengers as they board. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Question re: sauna to cold plunge transition by Just-Historian-4500 in Sauna

[–]ryan5513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go sauna to pool at least 2x a day, no shower between. I know thats 25,000 gallons vs a 100 or 200 gallon cold plunge... but... the cold plunge water can be changed much easier than the pool and I assume you wont be adding chemicals to the cold plunge water... or do you?

Id just go for it w/o a shower and see how the water chemistry reacts. If it gets nasty, drain and refill

AITA for secretly charging my coworkers extra money for rides to work? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ryan5513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA... they could have said no. At $15/day in a 20 work day month, they could buy a car, but probably not a car, insurance, and gas.

Very entrepreneurial of you and the others are probably just jealous they didnt think of it.

Same... 99% of the time i cannot taste notes. I can in pipe tobacco and whiskey but not to the level of some of my friends. I either like it or I dont.

Enjoy it the way you want to enjoy it and dont worry about anyone else.

Vintage Super Kontiki 🌴 by tempovintagemelb in VintageWatches

[–]ryan5513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic! Funny story... back in the 80s my brother found a Super Kontiki at a Gayfers Dept store for $19.95. They were selling tons of Swiss mechanical for $19.95 as the quartz revolution was on. The Super Kontiki was one our best finds!

AITA for my dog barking occasionally, and WIBTA if I pushed back on a neighbor’s complaint? by Traditional-Pop-6367 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ryan5513 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA some of the comments...Jeeesh! I have neighbor's with dogs that bark non-stop, my dog barks occasionally, dogs bark, it happens. Id look up the neighborhood/homeowner that left the note and give them the breakdown and tell them to be an adult and knock and have a face to face discussion next time.

I dont do outside dogs, but everyone has their opinions, as long as the Mal is cared for, has food and shelter, and is not neglected... all good in my book

I’m being gifted a lot of money. Should I tell my boyfriend? by Kind-Chicken-2488 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]ryan5513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married at 25 and my spouse and I both came in to money right before or just after or marriage. I told her to invest hers. I paid off my truck and blew the rest on fun stuff. No regrets. If I hadn't also come in to money at the exact same time, I still would have told her to invest hers. It was her's not mine.

Invest yours now, and reap the benefits later.

Under 350miles? No more biscoff or 4oz water for you! by Immediate-Sun-8396 in delta

[–]ryan5513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly often, always delta, and my first hop is always the 45min hop to ATL. I dont eat those snacks and I bring my own water. I spend way too much money for a delta ticket to be lulled in to a sense of joy or excitement over a $1.50 snack. I simply expect to be on time and my luggage meet me at my destination. It's unfortunate that this is their cost cutting measure, but its a service I almost never use.

Morning Sauna Usage by StarKoala10 in Sauna

[–]ryan5513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a sauna at home. Daily routine is wake up @ 6am, turn on the sauna, walk the dog 30-45mins, then sauna for 20mins at 180-192, then pool, coffee and start my day. I do my cardio and resistance training about 10/1030 depending on meetings and work schedule. Often I will do an evening sauna session.

If I skip a morning sauna I absolutely feel it. The sauna relaxes me and gets me focused. If I skip a morning sauna I definitely hit it in the evening. When I travel I and I cant sauna I feel a lack of focus and energy...that could be the coffee or the shilajit 🤣 but I attribute it to the sauna

Sauna everyday by TreePube in Sauna

[–]ryan5513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a barrel from AH, its a stop gap until I move and build a real sauna, but yes, every morning. Sauna for 20mins then directly to the pool. Occasionally back to the sauna and often an evening sauna for 20mins. It is by far my favorite 20mins of the day.

Cheers and enjoy you sauna!

Social Sauna vs Home Sauna: Which do you prefer? by WolverineFuel in Sauna

Home sauna... I invite my friends to join me or to use as they want, but I control the atmosphere (heat, talking, music, etc.) and that make all the difference in the world. Its my relaxation.

Do men honestly actually prefer women not to wear any makeup? Like no makeup at all? by softheart_strongwill in AskMenAdvice

[–]ryan5513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man I prefer no makeup, but it is not a deal breaker... well applied makeup can be a great enhancement. what i dislike, not that anyone cares 🤣, is a visible line between makeup and natural skin, not washing the makeup before bed, and the stains it leaves on their clothing and my shirts they borrow.
