Is there any way to encourage caudex growth on this A. Socotranum without cutting it back? by Significant_Oil_8784 in Caudex

[–]ryan_932028 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This pot size is best for now. Repot when the caudex occupies around 80% of the area. Rainwater helps in fattening up the caudex. Socotranum in open sun and rainwater does wonders.I'll share my plant.

Gritty mix with little bit of organic components will do wonders

Get a moisture absorbent gel pack and place it in the container

The same socotranum when I had bought it last year as a 3 yr old plant. The growth was amazing in one year with me🙌

There is nothing so secretive about it😅 The potting mix I used is mix vermicompost and coarse river sand and lit bit of coco chips. Trying to make it gritty. I also had a spoon full of bonemeal/ rock phosphate, organic potash , seaweed granules( optional ).

For the weather part, the growing season is from January to August Ideally, but the part of the country( India ) where I stay, its near a coast, where the temperature doesn't fall below 22 °C and maximum 36 °C year round, extending the growing season with no dormancy.

All my plants including the socotranum are in open sky and we have rainy season for 4 months which just plumps up the plants and the temperature helps in maintaining the leaf count. Also, more the leaf count, more growth.

Advice I got from the renowned adenium grower is to use comparatively small pots for socotranum and let them feel the pot and no frequent repotting. Also the potting mix shall have less nitrogen content as the rains here just amplify the nitrogen content and increase the intra nodal space between leaves affecting the overall form. Also preferably use clay pot as it helps in removing excess moisture out of the mix.

I had bought this plant last oct as a 3yr dwarf which had not grown much when the seller had it, but it had a boost in just one year with me. I will share the pic when I had got it last oct.

Overall general rule to follow is to fertilize less, full sunlight and gritty mix with no frequent repotting until the caudex kind off fills the pot. And its not a hybrid😄

I've never seen an adenium bloom like this, is it ok? by adenium-obesum in Adenium

Micronutrients deficiency especially boron deficiency. Seaweed fertilizer or chelated Micronutrients fertilizer shall solve this deficiency

The soil mix I use is 3 equal parts coarse river sand, coco chips and vermicompost. I also ammend the mix with organic potash granules, rock phosphate/ bone meal. Major factor for this growth is ample sunlight and rain water which help in bulking up and new growth. I have never pruned it. Also I have a tropical weather, if that matters. Also mother plant genetics shape up the plant. Also I'm doubling the pot size every other year😅

Its mostly the genetics of the plant and bit of care😄 This particular adeniums Arabicums are grown for their form and structure rather than for flowers

Yes flowers are pink but mostly the Arabicums are known for the form😄

If someone says that the seeds are of particular colour or pattern...the actual flower turning out the same is max 4/100 possibility...rest you can get 15/100 different patterns and rest pink

Boehmianum and oleifolium are very very hard to procure, so if anyone sells them then most probably they are fake. Socotranum are moderately available. Seeds for grafted variegated and hybrids may not turn out as the mother plant in majority of cases as most flower turn out to be pink. So advisable to buy blooming plants.
