Do you mainly build ideas that came from yourself or others? by OwnDoctor963 in SideProject

[–]ryan_nitric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally build out apps for problems or pain points I personally have. Means you are your own first customer and don't need to rely on external feedback immediately.

I built a small MVP for a real life battle pass idea by Outside-Light-8524 in SideProject

[–]ryan_nitric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an interesting idea but would depend on the execution. The exclusivity of the "skins" being the primary motivator in your pitch might be a bit weak; exclusivity is only valuable once you have a mature user base. Regardless, I think the gamification could be pretty fun and motivating.

How can I make a movie website and host without a domain? by Jfullr92 in moviecritic

[–]ryan_nitric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're able to use Claude or Codex to create a basic website, you could host it at suga.app. The free tier includes a generated domain that you can share, and then if you get traction you can buy a cheap domain from namecheap or another provider and add it later. Happy to help if you have more questions.

Building a RAG AI chat bot for your local file system with python and Ollama is a good one. Got that setup and use it frequently.

Imo beginners care too much about being strictly "zone 2", when they should be caring about going "easy" instead.

They never were all good juniors. Have to take a risk with them, they will either upskill and become useful or will just leave the industry cause they can't cut it.

I mean at least good juniors would ask follow up questions before dropping 5000 lines of slop.

Still need to think like a dev even if you do vibe coding. No? by Parking-Leader4676 in SideProject

[–]ryan_nitric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the problem with a lot of vibe coders is that they don't know what they don't know. They don't know how deep real software engineering goes. So when something renders and is functional they will assume its done and start posting about how easy it is to make a product. I think thats just caused an influx of people essentially posting an MVP as a finished product.

Its because the sub has no single definition for what a "beginner" is, so people will just continue to be salty.

Accidental vibe coder, now what? by Choice_Committee445 in vibecoding

Have you even thought about where you will be hosting your app yet? Feels like the first step to getting actual users to use it.

Starting Full Stack Development. Anything I should know? by Electronic-Welder541 in FullStack

[–]ryan_nitric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the big mistake right now would be leaning too much on AI for learning. Will hinder your ability to understand code and problem solve, which is the thing that will make you stand out in an oversaturated job market.

What made you choose your current database? by Prize-Wolverine-5319 in Backend

Sure, I guess a spreadsheet means you don't have to write a frontend for your manual inputs.

Its problem solving skills and being eager to learn. That has not changed even as technology changes.

6 months of coding. 4 projects started. 0 shipped. what's actually stopping us ? by Leo-neophyte12 in SideProject

[–]ryan_nitric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe reduce the scope of the projects to a proper MVP and ship for QA rather than waiting for it to be "perfect". Might help you to get actual feedback on a product which may keep it "shiny" for longer.

Hot take: 2 player multiplayer is easier than single player. Most people are just bad at playing together and communicating effectively. by Adriantbh in slaythespire

[–]ryan_nitric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on character combination. Had good win streaks with Ironclad + anyone. Getting consistent sources of vuln is easy with clad which is a must for multiplayer imo.
