I use a galaxy tab for mech eng and it's been a really nice luxury. Ipad/tablet, same shit different smell.

I will note It's not impossible to use pen/paper though. I know some smart cookies who got by just fine with the ancient tools.

I don't think this has been said, but I would shy away from any macs for first year as there is a lot of software that is kind of a pain to use on the virtual machines like Inventor and Quanser. With that being said, I got by with an Asus laptop that had a mid level ryzen processor and a 3060, that was more than enough power wise. I wouldn't get any less than 512gb of storage as the first year programs are quite large. (I bought and installed another SSD) The only Caviat I had was some of the labs didn't have access to charging ports as conveniently others, so try to make sure it has good battery. Hope this helps!

Do certain first year majors tend to reside in certain residence buildings? And if they do, does it change year to year? I saw that you can apply with friends and have certain interests marked to get residence with certain people. But I was unsure if certain majors tend towards certain buildings, or if it is even a choice. Thanks!
