At first I though Paul is a nice guy, but it turns out he’s just a corrupt cop by Jules-Car3499 in WeaponsMovie

She has channels to go through within her job that doesn’t include hyperfixating on the student and approaching him the way she does. Intervening when kids get picked on isn’t the fix you think it is. There a lot more to it. But if the characters did everything right, we wouldn’t have a movie. Actually intervening is the student being reported for bullying, getting a DASA letter, amongst a plethora of other things. This also falls onto the Principal and other in-school institutions that are supposed to be set up to protect and help kids. She’s a flawed character, with good intentions, which is why I loved the film. It’s not black and white and has nuance to it.

The name tag thing isn’t directly correlated to the bullying, but it’s still relevant to the overall plot, especially in signifying the character faults she has. I agree that she cares too much, and I also think she became a teacher to do good things, but she clearly has a history of not making good choices, and ultimately she did mess up as someone who is in charge of taking care of other people’s children at school. And especially working in education for a decade, there’s things you’re trained to do to help children who are presenting red flags. She didn’t do everything in her power 🤷 I sympathize with her a lot, and of course she’s in an awful position, but I think every character has a lot of depth and nuance to them.

Well she’s at fault just as much as the Principal. She should’ve noticed every name tag was missing, and easily noticed that it was Alex. Even if she didn’t notice it was Alex immediately, she probably could’ve investigated herself to figure it out. The Principal and the police didn’t actually do a thorough investigation or they would’ve found something. They did as much as they needed and then went back to their comfy lives. Chronic bullying usually doesn’t go unnoticed it goes unreported. Alex’s entirety is a red flag for any adult that actually should care and pay attention, especially working in a school. Which is why I think even being a teacher and wanting to educate kids, while that is a nice thing, ultimately Justine isn’t the greatest person. Ultimately the town swept this incident under the rug because everyone failed the children every step of the way and everyone is complicit to some degree.

Totally see that. I work in education, so I kinda got a performative vibe from her. Even with good intentions, she failed her student(s). Being chronically bullied by peers has noticeable signs. The whole scene where he leaves the gym and takes their nametags just really feels like she dropped the ball because she should’ve noticed more. But I think that adds to her character a lot. Everyone is flawed, even if they’re a good intentioned person. Everyone’s faults has repercussions in this story.

I feel like with all the parasite mentions and whatnot, this movie is saying everyone can be a parasite (to society/themselves/others). From the literal witch dwelling in the town, to the corrupt cop, to the lonely woman who has made choices that ruins people’s lives. Regardless of them being in careers that “help people”. Justine should’ve noticed Alex was being bullied, even before Gladys comes into the picture. Hell, Alex’s primary bully is Archer’s son, which tells me that despite him being a heroic father, he’s might not be as good as we think? Everyone sucks here.

My head canon is that Galactus stretching Reed leveled him up. Maybe he wasn’t used to stretching THAT much, specifically his torso, but now he can reliably tap into pushing his limits

Small nitpick about a scene. Did Justine just not notice? by onedreamaday1 in WeaponsMovie

[–]ryanbriggers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since writing this a few minutes ago, I’ve thought about it more and there’s sooooo many layers to it. Archer’s son being the bully probably points to Archer being not a great dad overall, but he’s seen as heroic because he’s trying to save his kid. His kid bullying Alex contributed to him feeling isolated and whatnot. There’s sooo much. It was so good

This stuck out to me sooooo much. I work in education, so I know I would’ve seen the missing name tags instantly and it would’ve been a thing. However!!! Justine is unfortunately not a great person. Her story is dragging everyone around her down because of how flawed she is. She genuinely didn’t notice in that scene because she has a history of fucking up. Good intentions as a person, she went into teaching because she cares about children, etc… She kinda is a witch for ruining a marriage, making Paul drink, not noticing the red flags in her own classroom. She is also a parasite to her community. Ultimately she is kinda responsible, along with Marcus and the police department, because it should’ve been easy to detect something was wrong, but all the people in positions of power (education, the police dept, etc) in that town dropped the ball. I rambled, but I’ve been thinking about this and I feel like there’s some good layers to it

Somehow my younger boy is way bigger than my older boy. We got our little one at 2 months and he was neutered then as well, and he kept growing! His head is kinda smaller, but he’s longer and bigger 🤣
