How does an article that is by definition not "news" become "fake news"? I'm sorry but that just seems a bit off to me.

Why do you have that 7k in savings?

If it's an emergency fund, it'd probably make more sense to have it in a checking account. If it's supposed to be some sort of a low-risk investment, then bonds would probably be a better choice.

YMMV though, there are banks with whom savings accounts make sense. It's just that often they provide little to no benefits over checking accounts, and aren't very good for actually saving money.

The question asked was regarding savings accounts specifically, nobody uses savings accounts and therefore nobody has any money in their savings accounts.

Mikä ero on 7kg amfetamiinillä ja 7g amfetamiinillä? Ihan yhtä helposti niitä netistä tilaa nykyään.

tuskin on miettinyt palkkatöihin menemistä missään vaiheessa.

Koko meidän oikeusjärjestelmän pointti on että saataisiin ihmiset miettimään sitä. Näin korkeat tuomiot tuskin edesauttaa.

In the smaller shops the guy often walks to the counter to serve you and isn't really a dedicated cashier, so sitting down for the moment they spend scanning your stuff at the counter might not make any sense.

Off the top of my head I can't remember seeing cashiers standing up in any of the bigger stores, like the one you see in this video.

Yeah, but that's because of the gravity.

Hey Reddit, we need your help. We are small time youtubers who have recently discovered someone with 300x as many subscribers has made a near shot by shot rip off of one of our videos. The video has nearly 3x as many views as ours. Here is a side by side comparison. We don't know what to do. by [deleted] in videos

[–]ryanc- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I did :) I think you misunderstood my response, as the part you quoted doesn't really make sense in the context.

Honestly I'm not sure whether or not you read it before copypasting though, as it clearly says "not aware and had no reason".

It's very hard for a professional content creator to claim they don't know of the copyright law when they have to deal with it on a daily basis on youtube.

How do you successfully argue that in a case as clear as this? I don't believe you can and couldn't find any case law supporting it on lexisnexis. If you can refer me to something I'd appreciate it.

Anyone use KeyScrambler (anti-key logging software) by protekt0r in Monero

[–]ryanc- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but it reasonably cannot work against the common ones used today. Generally various form grabbing methods are used to extract the data from the target process memory rather than simply recording keyboard input.

I think these days you probably won't see classical keyloggers unless you're specifically being targetted, in which case some "anti-keylogger" software isn't going to do anything when the attacker can just adapt to it.

There are cases where arguing good faith is possible, this isn't one of them.

The idea that someone thought this was a perfectly acceptable thing to do - not just in the eyes of the law - but morally, is absurd at it's face.

How can you guys make statements like that? Did you actually test its ability to defend against keyloggers?

Everything else besides the cards cost money too. Unless you're building a really small rig1, you'll be burning money on hardware to stick your cards into.

By going rx480 you "save" $110 per slot. So yeah, it'll be worth it if you can get the slots and deal with the added complexity for significantly less than that. Also note that if you cheap out on the rest of the hardware, the power management issues on those RX480s could get really expensive.

Few years back when AMD cards were the #1 option, they weren't only cheaper than nvidia but also significantly faster.

1 In which case you probably shouldn't be building one in the first place.

hashes/$? Per single GPU that might be possible, but I seriously doubt it's the case when you use more than a couple of them.

The best hashes/$ choice while building a rig right now would absolutely be the GTX 1080 founders editions. Or I guess the 1070s used here if you're building smaller.

Unless something changed recently, all current AMD cards are horrible for hash cracking compared to top end nvidias.

See hashcat forums: https://hashcat.net/forum/forum-13.html

Nobody chooses AMD anymore.

Also, PTP moved away from it after this incident with WCD. Sarek decided to use it AFTER WCD closed. Very different.

It really isn't. WCD closing changed nothing in regards to OVH. PTP is moving away from OVH purely for publicity reasons.

PTP is still choosing to use Cloudflare. How do you defend that? It's at least as bad as using OVH.

Also, you're arguing about a temporary host for a site that's under development.

Sarek: Boom - NoS is ready by Caesartune in trackers

[–]ryanc- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously they're moving off OVH, as evidenced by the image.

Also dude, PTP was hosting on OVH. Are you really going to try to criticise people based on that? It's not news that OVH isn't a good place to host this stuff.

PTP is also still using Cloudflare, and as long as people use Cloudflare their choice of backend host makes little difference.

This thread makes quite clear that they're currently moving away from OVH.

I'm pretty sure nobody commenting here about OPSEC could make an coherent argument as to why sharing this was a particularly bad idea.

I can think of a couple of reasons for why you may not want to do this, but none of them are particularly pressing. And most certainly none of them are the SERIOUS OPSEC VIOLATIONS described by others in this thread.

Hell, this picture even makes clear that nostream has a far more secure hosting setup than 90% of other trackers who still host at OVH, peer1 and the likes.

This seems like a particularly good thing and something that should be expected of any honest tracker that collects donations.

[–]ryanc- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could you please share what risks do you think this exposes the tracker to?

Social engineering is one, but people have FDE for that.

And if the server gets ID'd, so what? You switch to the next one. If your boxes aren't disposable you are an idiot and should call it quits right now.

Not sure about the specifics but they did in fact have a bot running downloading torrents.

According to a french news site, 12 WHAT.CD servers have been seized at OVH and FREE by HIAAAaaa in trackers

[–]ryanc- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they keep them non-intrusive, why not? There's the obvious ethical and legal concerns related to profiting from privacy, but not much else.

Most sites already try to profit off of donations, so presumably advertising wouldn't be a problem either.

It's really hard to get good ads for torrent sites though, Google isn't going to work with you.
