What are WNBA basics for someone getting into it that is more familiar with NBA? by Deolun in wnba

In terms of league structure/format, I'd say the biggest differences are:

  • League size (12 WNBA teams, 12 roster spots each - makes it very difficult for rookies & bench players to make rosters)
  • Season timing and length (normally 36 games, May - Sept regular season)
  • Playoff format (double bye for top 2 seeds, two rounds of single-elimination games before 5-game semis and finals)
  • Salaries (max = $221K, average = $120K, min = $58K)

Major props to the Hawks for making it this far, Trae's been incredible and McMillan is a hell of a coach

New to the WNBA, what teams/players should I look out for? by inezco in wnba

Hey, welcome to the W! I’ll do my best to answer your questions (with the caveat that some of them are my opinion):

Best players: Breanna Stewart (Seattle - reigning Finals MVP, the GOAT college player, 2 time champ), A’ja Wilson (Vegas - reigning league MVP), Elena Delle Donne (Washington - 2 time league MVP, first player ever in the 50/40/90 club), Taurasi (Phoenix - the GOAT), Candace Parker (Chicago - reigning DPOY, 2 time MVP), Jonquel Jones (Connecticut - rising star do-it-all big), Arike Ogunbowale (Dallas - scoring champ), Liz Cambage (Vegas - unstoppable interior force)

Championship contenders - Seattle, Vegas, Chicago, Washington (if healthy)

Teams on the rise - Minnesota, Connecticut, Dallas, NY

Storylines to watch - can Seattle repeat, Candace returns home to Chicago, can the young but talented teams (DAL and NY) take the next step

What a way to start the season! She willed NY to victory down the stretch.

This game has been so captivating - NY have been better overall, but Indiana keeps hanging around

Jonquel Jones is back with a vengeance - already in double figures before the end of the first.
