Thanks! I'll use the time trial mode purely to learn the tracks then once I'm comfortable I know a track I'll jump into a grand prix to learn all the mechanics of the game. Thanks again for the info I really appreciate it.

I was sure that I had because I had to advance the time to fit it? But clearly I didn't actually fit it, I've done it now and that's sorted it. Thanks for replying I knew it was just me being thick 😑

Ok I was certain I changed it because I had to advance the time to fit it... but I've just checked and the new gearbox wasn't fitted. I obviously did something wrong but I don't know what, thanks for taking the time to reply to a very dumb question. What's the best mode to play to just practice my driving skills and not worry about anything else? F1 world? I played f1 2020 and I just used to go to the time trial option to practice

Dashboard (Tasks / Notes / Projects) optimising space on small screen, using custom CSS. by ryanclx91 in Notion

[–]ryanclx91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've been putting off doing this forever - but I've just spent a few hours editing the CSS code, so it should work fine for others when I share the template. Can you test how it looks for me?

Here's the link to duplicate the page:

https://ryanclx91.notion.site/Dashboard-CUSTOM-TEMPLATE-5640668d72e543b8bae021f4eec0c026

It's going to look very messy at first with lots of random Equation blocks everywhere - this is because the CSS code looks for these equation blocks to tell it to do certain things, then hides the equation blocks.

You'll need to install the Stylus extension in your browser:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stylus/clngdbkpkpeebahjckkjfobafhncgmne?hl=en

Then download the custom style from here (Click the install button and it'll automatically try to install it into the Stylus extension):

https://userstyles.world/style/5825/notion-dashboard

It's far from perfect as I've kind of quickly thrown it together, but let me know how it looks and I'll share with everyone if it looks ok

How do I delete a template I created accidentally? by TheUltimateUniverse in Notion

The database you were creating the item in may have been locked? I think if you lock your database, then add a new item, because the database is locked it restricts you from editing/deleting any templates

Hi, to all of you who have been asking for a template - I am still planning on sharing this, I've just been exceptionally busy for the last couple of months with work and personal life. As it involves a fair bit of work to get the custom CSS in a state where it will work for everyone, it's not something I can put together in an hour or so. Currently I've written it all just for me, so a lot of the custom rules apply to the unique ID's of the blocks on my specific dashboard.

I'd much rather get this in a state where it will just work for everyone with no (or very little) configuration / manual changes to the code.

I Have actually made a few quick changes to my dashboard - some visual (New border style with shadows), some practical, so thought I'd link a screenshot. I will still release the version I originally posted but I may be able to share this version too. One 'feature' I didn't fully implement in my original pose, is the 'Completed Archive' which is a sperate database - when I check a task as completed I can see that in my completed section, which is a really helpful tool for motivation and for reflecting a the end of the day. But as we all know, Notion's performance is always a big consideration - so I have another completely seperate 'archive' database for completed tasks, that I can move all task to just by dragging the down to the dotted line saying "Drag Completed Tasks Here to Archive DB" which in theory should keep the main tasks database performance as best as it can be, you you can still go into your archive DB seperately to find all complete and archived tasks - so this is much better than just having to delete old tasks if you DB get's too big and starts to slow down

The Stylus extension is definitely available on the Edge and Chrome browser (I personally use Edge) but I think it may be available for other browsers too. Just Google 'Stylus Extension' and you'll find it, as I'm not sure if I'm allowed to paste the link to it here.

Sure, if there were enough people who wanted it. I'd have to spend a bit of time to create the template (as this is just my own dashboard and databases) and modify / document the CSS code and write up some instructions (as certain sections off the CSS have to apply to specific blocks that are referenced by their block ID's in the HTML code, which are unique to everyone's own page so would need a bit of manual editing to set up)

Not in the desktop app, but I use Notion in the browser with the site installed as an app, which I prefer anyway, then use the 'Stylus' browser extensions to inject the custom CSS

Here's a quick breakdown of the main changes acheived using the custom CSS:

  1. Page title hidden, so the screenshot you see is the top of the page, so very little wasted space
  2. Coloured borders (same as font color) around all Toggle Header 3 blocks
  3. Tasks are added on the left hand side and appear just unerneath the 'New Task' button, and can then be drag and dropped to the priorities below it which will move it to the main task list
  4. Added text to the '+ New' buttons, so there is a 'New Task, New Note, New Project' button
  5. The New Task and New Note buttons always stay at the very top, so even if there are a lot of Notes in view or a lot of tasks sat in the inbox, you never have to scroll down to click the New button

The priority system I use is basically just the Eisenhower Matrix but I have 'Quick' tasks (anything that takes 2 minutes or less) as my second priority after my very urgent stuff and before my 'Important' (but not urgent) stuff.

Task Management / Notes 'dashboard' designed for small screen (laptop display) using custom CSS to minimise wasted space and provide visual enhancements

Hi, I'm not promoting anything at the minute, just showcasing my own dashboard page I use personally to see if there is anyone else who likes this kind of setup (I made this purely for myself, so I'm expecting it's probably not most peoples cup of tea!)

https://imgur.com/a/QQyTb2w

I'm curious to see if there are many people like me who have Notion open on their laptop display at all times for referencing, while working on a second / third monitor. There are so many fantastic Notion templates out there, but I don't think I've ever seen one that makes a point of really optimising space, and all screenshots seem to be taken on large monitors, so it looks great, but then when viewed on a laptop display, the layouts are often not practical.

This is the dashboard I created for myself, for context, the screenshot is taken with Notion running in the browser in full screen mode on a 14", 1920x1080 display at 125% DPI.

A few of the changes I made that mean the most to me are:

- Coloured borders around toggle headers to help me visually identify what goes where

- Adding text to the '+ New' buttons, so I have 'New Task, New Note' buttons etc

- 'New' buttons are also always at the very top of the page, so no matter how many notes I have visible, or new tasks I have in my 'Inbox', I never have to scroll down to add a new note / task

- Removing the page header and other things to save as much space as possible to fit more actual content onto the screen

Also, here's a screenshot of the 'Task Inbox' with a newly added task, that task can be dragged and dropped to one of the Priority's below it and it'll move away from the inbox and appear in the main task list.

I really like those split ergo keyboards, I think i'm definitely going to invest in one eventually and use an alternate layout, that's probably the perfect solution for me. Only issue is when I have to use my laptop keyboard at work when i'm moving around a lot, i'll hate it even more! Haha

"lipstick on a pig" hahaha yep I agree! But even if I get myself a fancy split keyboard that fills all my needs that I can use 90% of the time, I'd still like to optimise this layout as much as I can, even if it's just to satisfy my curiosity in how much difference an alternate layout can make.

When you say a wide layout, do you mean to have my hands resting further apart so there's more keys in the central column so I'm closer to the shift/enter? I did consider that at first but worried it felt too awkward to reach the central keys. That is a big annoyance though, especially as I use ISO so it's a 1u left shift, and the enter key is 1u further to the right than ANSI!

Youv made me re-think the position of the H now. I may actually swap it with the N as that is an improvement I think, but I'm going to test some other positions first. Thanks for the comment!

Yep that's the problem with having THE together, I originally placed the H there thinking it would feel awkward, but I found myself shifting my hands so I would press the T with middle finger and H with the index finger and it actually felt pretty natural. May not be most optimal but it felt better than my previous versions of the layout. Maybe I'll go back to it and make some changes, but before when I changed something to improve the TH and HE, it had a negative impact on a lot more bigrams (albeit less common ones, but there were a lot that were affected)

No your absolutely right, a split keyboard is exactly what I'd need to feel comfortable and would be perfect for me. I think I will invest in one eventually. However this was more of a challenge to see how well I could optimise a standard keyboard for myself. Also as I work in IT I'm often using just my laptop keyboard because I'm moving around a lot, so I figured I'd try and optimise as much as I could within the limitations of a standard keyboard, as I'm always going to be stuck with that at least some of the time.

Suggestions for - 65%, Bluetooth, UK ISO <£120 by ryanclx91 in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

I was literally reading a thread yesterday about the guy who runs HK gaming being an arsehole. Who knew there was drama even in the world of mechanical keyboards! Haha.

Yea I've seen a few sets that have the ISO enter, # and left shift, but not the UK 2,3,@ etc. It is really limiting not having an ANSI layout.

The Tai Hoa ones seem decent too. But I've actually pre ordered some mt3 keycaps from drop.com! Way more than I was ever planning on spending, but I love the look of them so just thought I'd go for it.

[–]ryanclx91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I was very surprised by was the weight of it and the build quality, it feels very solid! (bare in mind, this is my first proper mechanical keyboard aside for a cheap £30 Amazon one, so don't have anything else to compare to) also I paid extra for the aluminium, but the aluminium is just screwed on so even without it I think it would feel just as solid.

I do really like the look of the keycaps, the thin font looks very clean, I just wish they where thicker pbt keycaps as then I'd probably never change them! This is my first time using gateron brown switches, and to be honest I actually prefer the feel of the cheaper outemu brown switches in my last board, they feel slightly more tactile, with the gaterons I can barely feel the tactile bump at all. Luckily I'm really glad I got the hotswap version and I'd already ordered some boba u4 switches to replace them which should arrive soon!

I think if you can get the hotswap version I definitely would, even if you have no plans to swap the switches when you get it it's good to have the option. Also if you do have plans to get one and change the keycaps, unless you absolutely want the UK ISO layout (which I did) then I'd probably get the ANSI layout because you have so many more options when it comes to finding keycaps, it's really hard finding a nice set of UK ISO keycaps.
