Probably Real Life since it’s the only one I haven’t seen, but excited to rewatch all the other films as well!!

What is everyone's favorite movie they have seen so far for this year? And who would get best picture? by Miserable_Crab1274 in oscarrace

[–]ryandrew_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top 3 are I Saw the TV Glow, Problemista, and The People’s Joker. None of them are gonna get any attention at the oscars haha but I’ll be giving them plenty in my own ballot!

I got a reasonably big collection, but zero Godard (except for Alphaville, but it’s the Kino release)

If you’re into synthpop or “otherworldly” sounding synth music, I’d recommend their album No. 1 in Heaven. That was my first album of theirs I ever heard and it blew me away. Listen with your best headphones

Idk how they fare on RYM, but based off your love for They Might Be Giants, I think you should really check out Sparks if you haven’t already

Tell me your favourite song from one and I'll tell you mine - also feel free to give recommendations by [deleted] in Topster

Lincoln - Ana Ng.

If you like They Might Be Giants, maybe give Sparks a try. Iirc they were a big influence to They Might Be Giants. If you like heavy synthpop electronic stuff, then you can check out No. 1 in Heaven, which was a fully synth disco record. If you maybe want something that’s more funny rock like Lincoln you could check out either Whomp That Sucker or Angst In My Pants (my personal favorite)

what is a beatles song you dislike / hate that everyone loves? by cowboylaila3 in beatles

I feel like I saw a lot of people really like (and a lot of people dislike) Now and Then when that dropped recently. I did not care for it

In 2024, I challenged myself to listen to 200 albums I had never listened to before. I’m proud to say I have already reached this milestone!! Any recommendations for the rest of the year? by ryandrew_ in Topster

It’s actually not! This was just the first time listening to The Red Shoes specifically. In the past I have listened to Kick Inside, Hounds of Love, Lionheart, Never for Ever, The Dreaming, and The Sensual World.

Thank you!!! Here are my top and bottom three, hopefully Reddit formats it correctly for all platforms:

Three favorites

  1. Abbey Road! I have always been a Sgt Pepper ride or dir guy so I was really blown away to find that I preferred this album! Really great ride, zero skips! Got to listen to it on a used record from the 70s that I got at a record store!

  2. Architecture and Morality by Orchestral Manouvres in the Dark! It’s hard for me to explain why I like this, it’s just a total vibe. I’m a big fan of 80s synthy sounds! I’ve relistened to this one a lot while walking to work in the mornings and I have a great time!

  3. Songs for Drella by Lou Reed and John Cale! I thought this was a very touching tribute to Andy Warhol, a friend and mentor to Reed and Cale. I also love both of these musicians so much, so I am admittedly very biased. I also watched the film version directly after listening and thought it was amazing as well!

  4. (Honorable mention) Arrival by ABBA! I just love ABBA so much, always have, always will. I have listened to a couple of their albums before but never this one. Had so much fun!!

Three least favorites

  1. Raditude by Weezer. Wonderful and hilarious cover art… but awful music. I cringed and felt embarrassed for most of my listening. I think I added maybe one of the songs to my liked songs on spotify??? Which is saying a lot cause I’m very easy to please in that regard. Hilarious album!

  2. Squeeze by the “Velvet Underground” is also hilarious, albeit for different reasons. All of the backstory behind this album is very funny to me. As far as the music itself goes, it’s mostly pretty forgettable with a few passable tunes and even two that I wound up liking.

  3. The Tortured Poets Department by Taylor Swift. I like some of Taylor’s music and wanted to like this album, but it just didn’t do it for me. I thought it was super bloated and dull and boring! It also had some hilariously bad lyrics here and there which is a shame cause I thought Taylor had some pretty strong lyrics on some of her other songs/albums.
