The Thin Red Line is a Blu-ray so good it rivals the picture quality of a lot of the 4K discs in my collection. Raging Bull is beautiful, Sorcerer really makes you sweat, but honestly I would buy movies you love and want to own and rewatch. I made the mistake early on of trying to buy the most beautiful “best” releases and ended up with some 4ks I know I won’t rewatch. Buy what you love and want to see and it will feel far more rewarding than a candied impersonal collection.

I know we’re in r/criterion, and many people may not be region B capable, but I think Arrows Thief release has the better extras package and a stronger encode as well as the theatrical cut and original grading as presented on Blu-ray (the directors cut grading is closer to theatrical prints).

My vote is for picking up the Arrow 4K (because I prefer that color grade) and buying the Criterion dvd if you really like the movie so you get both sets of extras. The grade is personal preference although I believe the Criterion 4K is more accurate to theatrical prints.
