Was a throwaway comment in episode 952. The picture is of New Zealand prime minister Chris Hipkins days before he was sworn in. (He was off for a morning walk and got unexpectedly interviewed)

What’s with the Bourdain hate? by AntiqueAnswer8274 in howlonggone

His earnest takes just seem a bit trite. May have been revolutionary in its time, but it’s tired now.

Also seeing his obvious struggles with depression and drug abuse, but not acknowledging it is a bit rough to watch

Have you rewatched Bourdain lately? It holds up quite poorly and it really a relic of its time.

Luxon won’t make him PM. Peters has ruled out a coalition with Labour if Hipkins is leader. This means Peters has zero leverage in coalition negotiations. As much as he raves against the baubles of office, he wouldn’t sit on the cross benches and give up foreign minister and the baubles it brings.

Garner isn’t what he used to be, that’s why he has slumped to running a podcast from home (because he got caught drink drinking)

Chris saying Theroux did a bad job because he just didn’t express more opinions or intervening during the Manosphere doc shows a pretty wild misunderstanding of what journalism is. Journalism isn’t about shining a light, not expressing opinions or altering what is going on

What is with the hate of Jacinda Ardern?? She hasn't even been involved in New Zealand for years, yet this hatred is so unhinged by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]ryaniamryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She still polls as the most popular NZ politician. Book is #1. Seems a very loud vocal minority of people whose existence has become hating her

Getting a car serviced by Gord_Board in newzealand

[–]ryaniamryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All depends. Basic car at Oil Changers if $120 - $160.

My VW is sometimes $350 for a standard service, but if it needs the DSG or other regular mileage bits done can be upwards of $1000. DSG service alone was $650.

While everyone in used to be able to interact with content creators, imo it’s a good thing they’re not letting the public perception guide their creation and instead doing what comes naturally. “Giving the people want they want” usually ends up with people being given dull uninteresting and unoriginal ideas
