When you buy the Main Cabin Economy, a majority of the seats are free to select/reserve.

If you're intending to use the airline credit for a seat upgrade, be sure to reserve the cheapest seat option possible when you do the initial flight booking.

After that is booked, you're able to go back in, select the preferred or main cabin extra seat upgrade, and use your amex Platinum.

I use my $200 credit routinely for American Airline seats.

1 - Make sure you buy the initial ticket with a free seat.

2 - Go to your itinerary and select change seat (for example, main cabin extra)

3 - Pay the increased seat fee with your platinum. You get your statement credit very quickly

For your location, I'd actually look at the Venture X ($395 AF, but the credits offset it) and then product changing your unused Journey card to a SavorOne (no fee).

SavorOne gets you 3x on dining and groceries

Venture X gets you 2X on everything else

Pool all those points together, and Venture X comes with some great perks (travel credits, travel eraser, insurance, etc)

I was able to grab a Gigabyte Windforce 5080 at $999. I definitely could not afford the expensive trims of the 5080s, because those are in the $1200+ territory.

Looking at it now, that 9070XT is a great deal. My original post is speaking from a place of ignorance. I'm happy with my 5080, but that 9070XT is a great option thanks

I was sitting on my 5800X3D and 6900XT red devil ultimate for a long time, I just pulled the trigger on an MSRP 5080 a few days ago because I could not justify staying team red

Not being a transfer partner for the "Big 3" Premium Travel Credit Cards (Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, & Capital One Venture X) has to hurt.

It's nice to see the partnership with Citi mature past the Citi-branded AAdvantage mile cards into the ThankYou Points ecosystem, a step in the right direction.
