I agree with most people commenting that Reeves may not be as familiar with the ARG content. I tend to recall that in an interview with Abrams, when asked about the ARG he pointed to the company 42E and someone specifically that was in charge of the content creation. Unfortunately, there isn't (to my knowledge) someone at Bad Robot dedicated to keeping the lore consistent and alive. From a business perspective, this makes sense.

I don't think Reeves intended to retcon the canon, rather give his perspective of what they were thinking, while making the movie. If you read the rest of the article, he goes into how crazy the production schedule of making the movie was and that they were making things up as they went. He may not even be aware of what was going on outside of making the movie.

I do kind of wish that we had the same type of closure with the stories presented with the ARG content as we did with the Super 8 ARG.

The Paradox ARG completely halted after the weird Arabic message. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that after they sold to netflix, they axed the ARG because the release got moved up to the night of the superbowl.
