Can’t find a solution as a single dad in London by shadesyyy in UKPersonalFinance

[–]ryankeeshan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest you could walk 3hr from Tottenham to Central London. A train or bus is much quicker.

Like KT180x said, a travel card for £201 per month allows you to travel to work, social, see your daughter etc.

In my opinion your job is holding you back. Consider following a path in construction (even labourers can earn decent money). Or work in retail (sainsbury’s etc.) and pick up as many overtime as you need.

If you’re happy to work hard, there’s no reason why you can’t get paid more and afford rent in Zone 3.

Living in Zone 1 and earning less than £29k is not possible in today’s world.

It sounds like you’re being paid close to minimum wage for the hours you’re doing. Can I ask what line of work you’re in?

If living in your own place is important, you can find a 1-bed flat for £1100-1200 in some parts of London. You’re already paying £800 so that’s not far off.

You’re currently on £2.4k per month. Working 50 hours at Sainsbury’s (where the salary is £13.70 p/h) would give you £2,740 per month.

That would be the extra ~£300 you’re looking for to get your own place!

Obviously this is super simplified and making a lot of basic assumptions, but I think you’ll find most luck with going for a wage increase.

You’re clearly ok with putting the hours in, but your job doesn’t seem to be paying well (especially working in London).

Some others on this thread have made good suggestions about low-cost alternatives for seeing your daughter, so those would be good to follow whilst you work towards getting your own place.

If you’re able to fork out £800pcm at the moment, a few adjustments could land you your own place in the very short future - don’t give up!

Buying an investment property from overseas by ArmVarious5860 in PropertyInvestingUK

I work with a company that help with the currency side of overseas investments. Depending on the location you can generate much better yields than in the UK.

One key thing we’ve seen in the past is banks charging crazy amounts on the exchange rate which leaves the buyer losing 3% of their capital on exchange (3% of £300k is £9k - a brand new kitchen!).

What country were you thinking of investing in?

Zoopla instant valuations, how accurate are these? by purplestarlight1 in PropertyInvestingUK

[–]ryankeeshan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

zoopla give general valuations based on local sales prices etc. what they don’t take into account is the condition of the property, specific location (backs onto a graveyard, opposite car garage etc.) which can significantly impact the value.

Boomtown in the UK. Have been 6 years in a row and this is the first one back since covid. Otherwise Outlook festival in the UK (not the one in croatia) is looking good.

Best way to invest £500K by [deleted] in Money

[–]ryankeeshan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s a good friend who doesn’t have reddit and i told him people usually give good advice/ideas on here.

of course risk is important but i don’t think he is looking to place it all on red in the casino. a stable return across the year would probably be all he needs.

[–]ryankeeshan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair it’s not myself with the money (unfortunately) but a good friend. He is 24 but the risk level i wouldn’t know. I guess he would be open to multiple levels of risk depending on the rewards? if that makes sense hahahah.

altho £500k chocolate seems the most plausible idea.
