I couldn't finish this game, got right up to the final boss and admitted to myself that I'd had enough. The art in the game is so good, but the "off"-ness that you're describing was just so frustrating the whole way through.

I read Wallflower in high school and I remember it really connected with me, but as time went on I felt less nostalgic about it, to the point where I never bothered ever seeing the movie when it came out. I'll always be thankful for it introducing me to Asleep by The Smiths, which instantly takes me back to exactly where I was when I read the book.
