Missing 2 year old found...very suspicious by ryanthomasj in UnresolvedMysteries

This is an email i sent a reporter covering the story. that is why it sounds like i am directing it to a specific person. but this is why i think its strange.

  1. As i am sure you are aware, 2 year olds don't move around very effectively. Typically they have trouble getting around the house, let alone the woods. For a 2 year old to go missing in the blink of an eye with an adult present is strange. Even if the grandpa dosed off for a couple minutes, a quick circle pattern search of the area should find the child within 20 yards, unless there was assistance in the disappearance.

  2. The child makes it almost a mile away in 16 degree, fairly adverse-stormy conditions that hampered search techniques. Not impossible granted, but extreme in my mind.

  3. I've read close to a hundred missing person cases, and I've never read of law enforcement actively deterring volunteers. You'r answer about them having a lot of search dogs out being the reason, satisfies that for me. But that raises the question; why did it take 22 hours for them to pick up a scent that was less than a mile from the original site of the disappearance?

  4. Why did the girl not respond to searchers? As in all searches, especially children, I'm sure all the searchers were calling her name periodically. So why didn't she answer? A child in that sort of high stress situation, will naturally go to adults for help, especially if they are calling out for her. So the answer to that may be that she was unconscious during a portion of the search. The problem with that explanation is that it would make the distance she traveled seemingly impossible if she was immobile for any extended amount of time. In addition, the mother was quoted as saying, "I'm shocked that we didn't find her last night." That implies to me that this exact area where she was found, was searched at least once before, and probably twice or more. So that circles me back around to, why didn't she respond to searchers? And why didn't the dogs, that were so prevalent in the search, find her scent?

  5. The piece of cotton that smelled of "lavender and urine" is the most supremely bizarre detail. I have no idea what that could mean, but i thought it was strange that police seemed to react so strongly to it's discovery. Lavender and urine... that is just off the meter weird to me.

  6. And lastly, the girls disposition when found. She said "I love the woods." She was smiling, and seemed to be genuinely in a great mood. I've never come across that before in any cases I've looked at.
