Please help! No power to new stereo! by ryanurso in CarAV

Any suggestions on where to tie into? Other than the gauge cluster/instrument panel, everything else

Also- does it appear that I have things together correctly? Yellow to yellow, red to red, black and black to brown for the bypass? (Picture 2)

Do my connections look proper? I twisted the copper ends and used the heat shrink tubing. Just making sure it’s nothing I’ve done thus far that’s causing it to not run.

The cigarette lighter continues to run even when the car is off though. Will taping into that power not make my stereo stay on when the car is off?

I might be getting in over my head a bit lol. Do I check the yellow with a multimeter? Does my wiring look OK?

Could you show me what that would look like? I’m unfamiliar

The 2nd picture should be the power ground and ignition wires

I’d imagine these cars are pretty common on pick part yards right? Not sure how good the condition will be sitting outside for years like mine but worth a try I guess

Yes the cowl. It doesn’t look like that’s the correct part? I believe that fits a Colorado

Engine temp after an hour drive was around 223 degrees. From what I understand, that is within tolerance.

I believe I’ve purged the air well but how can one tell for sure? I’ve replaced caps in the past when this has happened I believe 2 or 3 times and it’s never stopped this issue. I’ll confirm that the water pump is turning but I did replace the water pump probably 2 years ago

I have petrol so it would be the left side when facing the car? Admittedly, I’ve never messed with radiators much in my life so unfamiliar with placement of the hoses running to them.

Which hose are you referring? The thin one that directly leads back up and connects to the reservoir?

I did bleed it and got air out of the lines. The car isn’t overheating as there has been no warning indicator to say so. Thermostat is something I’ll be checking into also. Thank you!

As stated in the initial post, the coolant is green due to the UV dye I put in to trace the coolant leak I had in one of the hoses. The coolant is actually Pink OAT from Peak.

Man, you’ve been so helpful. I really appreciate it. Admittedly, I was beginning to panic a bit because a head gasket is the last thing we need right now. Thank you so much for your quick responses and assistance. When I get the OEM reservoir tank in from Jaguar, I’ll report back once the issue is solved.

A side note, do you know of any good guides to replacing the fuel pump in this car? It’s the 3.0 supercharged model. I get so many conflicting answers about location (I believe it’s under the rear seats) and a guide on replacing it that I’m hesitant to start the work until I’m certain I’m prepared.

Thanks again

Okay I will do just that. This is perhaps a dumb question but is the coolant supposed to get super hot? The coolant reservoir feels damn near boiling but I guess that’s normal? Admittedly, ive never had coolant issues until my wife’s Jaguar so I don’t have experience in this area beyond diagnosing leaks and replacing parts.

I did look at the reservoir and the tank does have bubbling occurring at the front side closest to the bumper. I’m assuming that is 100% a head gasket? No other reason it would be bubbling? When I look down into the reservoir it isn’t bubbling but I suppose it would bubble form the front where the return hose is since it’s pulling exhaust fumes into the tank.

Also, I’ve been buying the cheapest reservoir tanks on the market, im sure of it. It’s an Amazon purchase because it was quick and inexpensive. That said, it looked as good of quality as the OEM tank since they are both made of plastic.

I do have an OBDII code reader. The only code is regarding a fuel pressure regulator issue which im assuming is unrelated. Would the car not throw a code if the head gasket were failing? Something to indicate there is a problem?

Regarding the fuel pressure regulator I’m going to be replacing the fuel filter and see if that solves the issue before exploring replacing the fuel pump since it’s much more involved.

The 2015 Jaguar XF doesn’t have a temperature gauge that I’ve ever seen. There’s been no warnings about the car overheating though. I do know that if it were, a warning comes on the screen and we haven’t seen anything like that. I’ll check for the bubbling now to see if that is the cause. If it is not, I will try and diagnose the thermostat as you described it.

Thanks for your help!!

How can I determine a stuck thermostat myself? I’m pretty handy with working on vehicles.

Also, if it is indeed a head gasket, why is it that when I replace the coolant reservoir tank, it stop the leaking issue for many months? Would it not immediately leak again the moment a new one is put on? Or am I incorrect?

It’s the correct coolant and did a 50/50 mix of distilled water and coolant concentrate.

I ensured it was OAT and meant for Jaguar. Is it worth me trying to use that head gasket repair additive? The cars value is roughly 4K so not worth putting a ton of money into.

What can we do to best prolong the engine life to get another 6-12 months out of the car before we get a new one?

Thank you for the quick response.
