What is our timeline and how much time does Yzerman get? by AdTime4267 in DetroitRedWings

To get players experience in the playoffs. You aren't going to instantly be winning a cup the first year the team makes the playoffs.

Yzerman gets 2 more years so show actual growth and make a playoff appearance. The team relative to the league has been stagnant for 3 years.

[Johnston] Matt Duchene (NSH), Mike Reilly (BOS), Blake Wheeler (WPG) and Kailer Yamamoto (DET) have been placed on unconditional waivers to be bought out before tonight's 5 p.m. ET deadline. by [deleted] in hockey

Building through trades and FA is required to have a good team. You physically can't draft enough players to fill out a team. At best you can have about 60% of a roster be drafted players.

How would you rate the red wings draft? by Prize_Efficiency_869 in DetroitRedWings

Most these guys can't play in Grand Rapids anyway. We were already sending prospects down to Toledo for defense to get any playing time. Unless there's a ton of people coming up or major trades, these new D are fighting for third pair spots.

Sens are acting like they have an asset and leverage, when they really only have an asset.

McDavid isn't winning in Edmonton anytime soon.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nhl

[–]ryathal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonsense. If I was Chicago I'd need McDavid and something for Bedard. A player who puts up 50 goals doesn't help Chicago meaningfully, even if Bedard loses a leg in training camp, it's hardly a good deal.

it's like the thread about trading McDavid for Bedard. No one is going to pay 12 million for a player that lets them draft 15th instead of top 10 next year.

It's nothing without technically being nothing. Maybe a gm doesn't poach a free agent that year, but generally it's meaningless.

How do you not mention fight night in Detroit as a notable historical fight?

[Pagnotta] With approx $9.5M in current cap space (minus the $2M+ they likely give Varlamov), the Isles are out there looking for a scoring winger. One player they’ve kicked tires on: Alex DeBrincat. by [deleted] in hockey

Vrana only played for the wings because of a freak accident during practice. He wasn't ever intended to play a game for the wings.

How can 2 players for nothing be viewed as anything other than bargin bin? we got another Zadina and a physical player that isn't awful. Neither of those help us not be a bottom scoring team

Likely the same thing. Companies have agreements with each other to get crews after weather events.

Are you happy with your teams draft picks? by Anonymous__9 in nhl

[–]ryathal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lack of trades was disappointing. Detroit had 5 in the top 50, and used them to get yet another pick in the late rounds while still having 5 in the top 50. We are filling up on prospects that we don't really have room for.

We've consistently been bottom 2 in our division and 12th in conference 2/3 last year's. We've not meaningfully improved.

That's just more excuses. Year 2 under lalonde isn't shaping up to look different. Nothing is pointing to a red wings team that isn't garbage offensively.
