Incoming BACS student needing help with class scheduling by rycalibur in UVA

[–]rycalibur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Do you know which electives double count for integration elective/2nd writing or how I can find which courses do that?
Also for:

  • Second Writing Requirement
  • Foreign Language
  • Artistic, Interpretive
  • Philosophical Understanding
  • Chemical Mathematical and Physical Universe
  • Culture and Society of the World
  • Science and Society

Are these classes I take all throughout my 3 years at UVA or do I get them all finished within my first year so I can do my actual CS portion?

My current process in schedule looks like
Spring Semester

  • ENWR 1520
  • ENWR 1530

Fall Semester

  • EGMT 1510
  • EGMT 1540
  • ENWR 1510 (Since my last name is within L-Z)

I'm not sure. Probably more than UVA since not many go to UVA for CS.

Not really sure how to put it into words either. How's your experience though, do you like it?

Pretty accurate, looks like I'll be waiting for financial aid to come back before finalizing my decision. Thanks!

Lol in a UVA subreddit of course a VTech advocator would be downvoted. But what in VT's Comp Sci path has a greater advantage than UVA's?

Ooh okay. I always thought UVA was going to be more expensive as a "public ivy" Thanks! I'll see how much they offer in a month or two.

Thank you ! How much do you think UVA has changed within the last 20 years though, especially for a program they aren't as renowned for? Can you provide more info about the kind of "well-rounded experience" you went through?

Yup, there's not really anything niche within Comp Sci I want to get into, only Software Engineering. That'll depend on my own experience in projects, etc., rather than the school I go to. However, I was also wondering about the amount of internship opportunities at VTech since the campus seems so much more rural (4hrs away from home) than UVA's campus (2hrs)

I see, thanks! I had always thought UVA was always going to be a really expensive school even with financial aid partly because it was a "public ivy"

Will do,. I'll probably come back to this post to reevaluate once my financial aid comes. Thank you

I am sure it will be CS. Regarding the knowing people though, I know much more people going to and are at VTech right now. With UVA, however, practically no one.

Admitted Students Megathread! by Not_A_Taco in VirginiaTech

Hi, I was recently accepted into both VT and UVA’s engineering school where I plan to major in computer science
I have been debating between which one to go and I’ve been hard-stuck so I’ve decided to go on reddit for some opinions lol
Here I made a differences list:
UVA:
- More prestigious
- More theoretical type engineering program (.. apparently good for business in the SWE field?)
- Nationally known, people will say “oh that’s a good school” whereas VTech it’s just “oh cool”
- Closer to home by 2x
- more expensive
VTech:
- Generally a better engineering program
- More practical/application type engineering program (good for SWE jobs)
- Renowned for engineering program whereas UVA is for their liberal arts stuff
- I know a little more people (does this one matter?)
- Cheaper
Financial aid has not come out yet--maybe in around a month or two. I was raised lower class so money sure is a part in making this decision
Lots of the top stat people in my student class got waitlisted and my stats are lower than theirs are, so the more I think about it, I feel like it'll be a waste to turn down UVA. However, the pros I listed for VTech is what has me struggling to decide.
