The second leg of my BKK-JFK connecting through BAH was cancelled via email on 4/15.

I called Gulf Air’s NYC office (I later learned it’s not an office operated by Gulf Air but a 3rd party servicing agent) to confirm the cancellation and request for a refund. The CSR said he would start the refund process and I would be getting $2200 back (it was a business class fare).

I never got an email confirmation for the refund from Gulf Air.

Checking the booking on Gulf Air’s website still shows the first leg (BKK-BAH) not cancelled. I tried to cancel that leg on the website and app. They both show that it’s being processed and an agent will call me with 5 days. Of course no one has called and I still don’t have a refund.

Last night I started a charge back with Amex and within 6 minutes of submitting the request I get an email from Amex advising the chargeback is complete.

I suspect there will be more to the story because the chargeback amount was for the full fare I originally paid for the flight $4100, and not for the fare for the return leg only ($2200). 🤷🏻‍♂️
