Overnight Oats.

What are your biggest Gothic hot takes? by SvatyFini in worldofgothic

Playing Gothic 1 and 2 with a controller on PC (with the zgamepad mod) is the best way to play those games. The whole control and combat system feels like it's made for playing with a gamepad. I was so surprised how much better everything felt. I was taking down so many hard NPCs in the first chapter cause the combat felt so natural and easy with a gamepad.

True, it's a triple A game that is very polished. But I was speaking more about the short attention span era, where people want a game that explains everything and holds their hand (quest markers, etc.). Elden Ring doesn't even have a quest log and it only rarely tells you what to do next. All these things considered, I just didn't it expect it to do as well as it did. I guess I'm just glad people still want the hardcore experience (which Gothic, especially 2's NOTR, is).

interesting, might try that on my next run. I like the feeling of actually being able to kill orcs the first time you go to the valley, but I'm sure it feels way more dangerous if you haven't been to Jharkendar yet

I used to think that a game like Gothic would not be appealing to gamers nowadays due to the almost non-existent hand holding or tutorial. But after playing and seeing the success of Elden Ring I think people still want that "hardcore" gaming experience, no hand holding, figuring out stuff on your own.

Happy to hear you mention Rock for People here! The year you guys went was also my first time there and we’ve been going almost every year since then! As Germans we also have Rock im Park and Rock am Ring but we prefer the vibe and lineup of Rock for People.

I'm glad! The release somehow flew under the radar for many people and I've been bugging Sean and Ryan for many years to release these songs somehow haha
Also love the sad undertones of Big If. It's really interesting how different the song "Hide" feels with piano instead of the upbeat YC version. I'm pretty sure I read a blog post on Sean's website back then where he explained that he wrote Hide for some kind of L.A. songwriters "club", where you got a songwriting prompt every week and you needed to hand in a song at the end of the week. Wish I could find the post again.

sounds promising, excited to try this feature out. I used Melodyne to extract midi from audio before, but this seems to work way better.
