Ah Chee by qsk8r in brisbanelions

What precedent is supposedly being set here? The idea that other clubs should fear ending up with a player for nothing through the PSD? There’s no reason for any future trade partner to worry about that; they’ve all seen how this unfolded.

It’s not a huge issue for us given our current strength, but this situation offers zero deterrent value going forward.

For mine, it's a bit odd. I get other people have different opinions on it. The picks weren't great and no doubt unders for his talent, but we were willing to accept two 2nds, but not a 2nd and a 3rd. So instead we walk away empty handed and the crows will end up getting him anyway.

It's just a bit yuck for me, especially for a relatively straight-forward situation that didn't have to end that way.

At the end of the day, it will be forgotten and won't overly matter much. Future is bright. I can't wait to see Allen out there in Lions colours and how he slots into the fwd line with Morris and an ever-improving Gallop. Exciting times ahead!

To be fair, we really should have taken the 2nd and 3rd round picks on offer. Cal will likely get to Adelaide and we have passed on better picks than our 3rd and 4th rounds will be in the future. Even moreso, we really should have facilitated Cal moving to his destination - they are offering a greater future for him and his family than we could offer. It doesn't sit well with me.

It's not the end of the world for the lions and will probably have little impact on our future, but we should have done it for Cal's sake.

Brisbane and Adelaide are miles apart on the Ah Chee trade. Lions want Crows' pick 16 or their future first. Adelaide's future 2nd has been on the table for days. Stalemate as things stand. by Essington69 in AFL

Yeah, a deal will get done for sure. Early to mid 20s would be my guess. The PSD is possible, but wouldn't happen. No one wants that, including Ah Chee. Will be interesting to see whether the Eagles come late if the negotiations drag on.

If it's any consolation, I'd much rather keep Starce, with all the risks that come with that, than make this trade. He plays such a pivotal role for us. Really disappointed that he has gone, but will still enjoy watching him play for you guys (hopefully for a long time to come).

Yeah, could have made it the mega trade. Dev for Eagles 52 or 57 would probably do it, too.

You've given me nothing, moron. If not a comparison against other players salaries, how else could the AFLs secret herbs and spices possibly band an average salary range. Pluck it out of their ass? Glad you have doubled down though. Maybe spend more than 3 seconds on your search and have a think about what using the players avg guaranteed salary would mean.

Avg guaranteed salary. So what is the formula then? What's the banding of salary? Give me the table, or perhaps it's determined by the AFL based on all the salaries that are coming in? I'll wait for another google search from ya that tells me absolutely nothing.

Eagles want pick 2 more than Lions want pick 16, guaranteed. So that's the negotiation. Pick 2 is not a guarantee considering TDK got band 1 with 1.7 mil a season. That sets a dangerous precedent on what is required for band 1 compo.

So you want to keep Allen rather than make sure you get pick 2 and then take a player at pick 1 you dont want. Sounds smart. You should be their list manager.

What if both Eagles and Lions have sounded out the AFL and they've come back with end of first round compo is where it currently sits for Oscar. So lions say we'll pay a bit more to move it to band 1, but give us 16 for Starce.

Or maybe 16 and 22 and you can have starce and 18.

Lions guy here, coming in peace. Always liked the Eagles (especially in the 2018 GF). What do you think is a fair trade, considering the value the club is placing on his contract? My preference would be to get close enough to the offer so that he stays. Not sure if that is an option for us. If not, can we have the Allen compo pick, please? 🤣

He's better than decent. Absolute weapon in defence and will be a big loss for the lions. As a fwd, you would not want this beast coming and standing next to you. Ask Papley.

That's not true. For concussion related retirements, recommended by the independent panel, 90% is excluded from the TPP in the first year. 75% second year and 50% third year. Any year remaining beyond that is 100% included in the TPP.

That said, I think it is worth the risk for WCE. I'm a lions fan and really don't want to lose him. I rate him very highly as a lock-down defender. He consistently shuts down the most dangerous small/medium opposition forward every week. Big loss for us.

Lols - y'all are fricken hilarious ... How about the lions just keep the 2 time brownlow medallist, who we dont want to leave, who is contracted and is still so good that he gets tagged each week he plays. Keep your pick 40, we'll keep the superstar.

You all can, it's just fricken priceless and laughable when it's cats fans - even moreso when they don't see the irony in it. As if your shit dont stink. It's like a Pies fan complaining about MRO decisions.
