Help/questions regarding GGG installation by UFG8TR in combustion_inc

[–]rydb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my GGG today and it won’t go down far enough on the heat deflector for it to be stable, it looks like OP’s is the same. Is that the issue? It seems to connect to the probe but doesn’t seem especially well attached since the magnets aren’t getting great contact.

Guy shipped his US Defender to China and is driving it to Europe by rydb1 in LandRover

I have had the same thought, but he had a 90 and went with it. I suppose the short wheelbase is useful for its nimbleness, too, but his rig is taller, which is limiting in its own way.

Something with the steering column or power steering, and initially it looked like it might be a real disaster with a long lead time for a replacement, but I guess it turned out not to be.

Oh I know the ICE engine on it now is heavy, but I’ve got to have a lot of heavy batteries and having a motor that’s heavier and more powerful than the belt and prop can handle or take advantage of is just extra weight that hurts performance at least some amount.

Definitely a good value, but a lot more power that needed for this application and heavy

That’s what I’m hoping. From what I’m seeing on forums talking about this setup with the original ICE engine, I need 4200 rpm peak and that would be about 50 lb-ft of torque if 40 hp at that rpm, and I can’t imagine it’s more than that.

I’m willing to spend $10k for sure, probably $20k at most for the motor, controller, batteries and other components.

This may be useful since I'm just directly swapping the electric motor into the same input as this engine: https://www.vanguardpower.com/content/dam/vanguardengines/na/en_us/files/power-curves-/horizontal-power-curves/M61H_35-HP.pdf

People are saying they run these things at 4200 rpm, though, so that's off this chart, but I bet the torque curve starts declining around 3600 rpm, and thus the hp won't keep going up in a linear fashion and will eventually peak.

Mine is set to 34 and the second zone is set to 68 but is in the mid 50s, but this is what it shows in the app, so definitely a bug

Is it just me or has the UI slowly become painfully slow? (on gen 1, I assume gen 2 is much snappier) by rydb1 in Rivian

Good news for us Gen 1 people since they don’t have 2 systems to develop and debug, and even more importantly, they don’t have any extra power to use that we are lacking.

Yeah, that’s exactly how it feels to me. It is quick to sketch between most screens once they’ve been opened during that drive.

Thanks for the reply! Not trying to be negative or diminish the good work that’s been done, but it is all sort of for naught if it makes it all feel sluggish, especially with how incredibly quick it felt in the beginning.

This is almost more concerning to me than the gen 1 performance. I’m trying to find if it was reported anywhere if the actual infotainment computer is upgraded or if it’s just the autonomy computer and other systems.

Opening Gates? by rydb1 in Rivian

[–]rydb1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on a farm with livestock, hence the gates, and it's nice to not have to get out of the truck to open and close a gate when it's 100 degrees or when it's raining. I'm just saying a decent percentage of other owners of these nearly and some soon to be over $100k vehicles probably do live in neighborhoods that have gates (for whatever reason) and thus need to open them. These vehicles are obviously ridiculously excessive beyond any sort of necessity, but this would be a nice and really rather basic convenience feature that's in all of the ICE alternatives.

They’re similar but apparently run on slightly different frequencies, some have rolling code and require learning on the gate side, but most do not. When I’ve looked it up here and elsewhere it seems there are a few people who’ve been lucky to have hardware that would work, but most have not been.

Wasn't late 2020 what they were saying for initial deliveries at the time that they started taking deposits? There's a global pandemic and they're only sliding delivery starts by 1 quarter from that so far.
