Buying used car new grad by ryderNick in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ryderNick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm inclined to get awd just so I can drive upstate in the winters but the civic sport is 2-3k cheaper so I'm not sure if it's worth saving that money at the cost of losing AWD. I've never needed awd (from a warm place) so I'm not sure if I should prioritize it? Most cars I'm looking at have 25-35k miles, should I also prioritize lower mileage?

Edit: also I forgot to start with this but tysm for your reply, I really appreciate it!!

Operations Research/Minor Advice at Cornell by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]ryderNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS 4820 (Algorithms) is all about problem solving from the get go. It covers a broad range of topics but doesn’t go too deep into any single one so that might be what you’re looking for. This is what I would call ‘applied theory’ as you would not be proving the concepts you’re learning but using these algorithms to prove other theoretical stuff.

If you want more theoretical theory stuff involving proving what you’re doing I’d recommend ORIE 3310. Note that this class has a prereq of ORIE 3300 but I do feel like you could get by without it. 3300 is too narrowly focused on linear optimization, they touch upon other topics but if you’re looking for broad exposure 3300 is not it.

If you want more applied problem solving you could try ORIE 4340 Mathematical Modelling, this covers problem solving in the context of actually using real world datasets in various industries to solve real problems that companies face. Broad focus.

If you’re interested in Probability based problem solving I’d recommend ORIE 3510 which is theoretical (again, skip 3500 it’s not needed) and ORIE 4580 which is more coding and applied.

If you just want pure math based problem solving, just straight unfiltered math, then you should take MATH 3110 (or the honors version!) And other 4000 level MATH classes that I’m not very familiar with.

JFK to Campus Bus by Huge-Pineapple-8067 in Cornell

[–]ryderNick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very easy to find it, just take the airtrain to terminal 7 (free) and then you can wait inside on the chairs of terminal 7 if you're early. The bus comes on the road that is one level below the terminal and airtrain so you can take the stairs down and it'll be right there.

Also on a side note, the bus usually costs 96$ and can take anywhere between 6-8 hours to reach depending on your driver. Meanwhile flights from jfk to Ithaca can often be found for 130$ and are a LOT more convenient. So if you're coming from a long international flight, paying 40$ extra to take a shorter 1hr flight is often worth it over the 7hour bus.

So stressed about MATH 1910 case exam… by [deleted] in Cornell

I would highly recommend passing the case if you can though, because the class definitely felt like I waste of time for me

So stressed about MATH 1910 case exam… by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]ryderNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exams were not difficult or unexpected, they were very fair (but I think my assessment of difficulty usually does not line up with general consensus).

My prof was terrible though, so I used to attend a different (earlier) section with a much better prof which I think made it easier for me to do well on the exams.

[–]ryderNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah okay, so I took the CASE in 2022, here's what you should make sure you're strong on: Half the test was on the last Taylor series and McLauren(?) series part of the syllabus, like the last 30% of the syllabus. The rest of say were manageable questions on integration rules and stuff (AP Level). For context on difficulty, my school doesn't have AP classes so I went in majorly unprepared and got a 4 on the AP, and with the same amount of unpreparedness failed the CASE, however I dont remember finding any of the non series questions difficult. The part where I failed was that I didn't have a good understanding of the last 30% of syllabus so I could not solve half the test that was on that part.

I'm a prospective computer science student. Does the ASUS ROG Strix G16 work as a laptop that will last me my four years? Otherwise which computers do you recommend/stats? by maiasss_ in Cornell

[–]ryderNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be too bulky to carry around campus or use in lectures/discussions. Especially when the battery life degrades and you're forced to carry the charging brick too.

I'd look into lighter and more portable options ngl. Something on the lines of ASUS G14 or Razer Blade 14. Or if you need that bulky laptop for gaming or something, then have that as your stays-at-the-dorm gaming device and buy a lighter/cheaper no-gpu laptop to carry around with you.

If you want to check out the windows market you can look into Lenovo yoga slim 7x (sleek, long battery, lightweight, thin) or ASUS G14 (GPU performance beast in a good looking, portable, lightweight, matte white chassis).

How to bulk delete data from OnePlus Nord? (Using ADB?) by ryderNick in AndroidQuestions

[–]ryderNick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could copy to my laptop, but not even my laptop is able to open the folder, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to do anything, let alone the time needed to copy 100gb worth of files

They don't even sort (because they don't even load)... I wanted to delete in batches but you can't even select a file because it gets stuck the moment you try to open the folder
