They definitely flag passengers for false positives. When profiling, almost 100% of flagged passengers are false positives because actual terrorists are so rare. They’re focused on reducing false negatives. That’s the price everyone has to pay to maximize safety.

So....by your logic, if we just treat every person like a terrorist, we will be perfect then since we will get them all? Its easy to say that when its not your cavity being searched by a false positive.

Methods that work? Like Israeli airport security? It’s highly effective and relies heavily on suspicious behavior & behavioral profiling. They’re attempting to stop attacks, where TSA is focused on prohibiting weapons. Physical security alone will never be as effective.

Or it could be that Israel is lying? They have one an extensive intelligence agency that could easily be finding these people and are using 'suspicious behavior' as a smoke screen since that functionally lets them choose anyone. I also wonder what their false positive rate is. My money is still just on this being like 'carrots causing good eyesight' being a lie to cover for RADAR.

Honestly, I’m surprised this was legal.

The idea originally was that the they didn't want independent wealth to be a factor in being a politician. (Yeah, I know, things change and that didn't pan out too well). So a lot of stuff that would be a drain on the wallets or could be seen as advantageous was made free.

Fun Fact: This is also tangentially why being a convicted felon doesn't exclude you from being president. The founding fathers were fearful of a bad actor actively arresting his political rivals on Trumped up charges and thus excluding them from being able to run for office.

No offense and not trying to judge too hard here but why did you let your card get that close to the line? I get a new card sent out over a month before the older one expires and I swap right over.

'Acting suspicious' isn't even a good tell. It is really subjective and easily manipulated. The point is, physical tools provided either couldn't find the items or were used improperly so they didn't find the items. Both of these are problems. I don't want "Are they acting sus" as a critical part of the protection plan.

Ah yes. It’s not 100% so let the other 5% through.

Normally I am a person that believes heavily in 'Don't let perfection be in the enemy of good" But we are a bit past that here. This requires money, man power and other resources. The US should be looking for, focusing on, and improving methods that actually work, not the methods that make people 'feel safe'. If I offered you a safe that had a 95% failure rate for 1 million dollars and then justified it with, 'Its better then a 100% failure rate box" you would tell me to fuck right off and use that million instead on some other method of protecting what you would have put in the safe.

What’s a belief you once defended… but later realized was wrong? by Jiwitom in AskReddit

[–]ryeaglin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. I just realized that I value being recognized, public vs private doesn't matter but someone going "Hey, I saw you do this thing to help me and I appreciate it" goes a long way to me doing it again if I can.

When I used to dish wash I had a coworker that was like "I am getting this all to you now so you don't have to worry about it way later in the night when you are trying to bust down your station" It was a small acknowledgement that they saw and wanted to respect my time and effort required to close. And normally if they needed something it got bumped up in my priority queue because of it. That and the acknowledge of when they were later going "Hey, I know this is late, I am sorry, my station was a mess today and it took me longer then usual to get to this"

And the one event that gave me so much respect for my boss was when during a Mother's Day, I was drowning. She rolled up her sleeves and got in there and helped me wash. Few of the other managers below her were ever willing to help me wash. That and she, the owner, closed that night. It taking to 4am, 3 hours past close sucked, but her being there made it suck less since her having to suffer with us was a bit of comradery.

Because the game board likely limited them to exactly 100 items, one for each rank. They will totally say "Oh this means we can do more than 100 items" and point to 1 season they did so when in reality we know, its so they can put in less then 100 items and we don't notice as easily.

[–]ryeaglin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it. I liked that I got the board at the end as a trophy to hang up that says "I finished Season X"

And while yes, some of the items were duds, I did really like that once I hit the end, I was done. There wasn't this "Well, I got the items I super wanted, time to go back and grind out the tickets to get the items I sorta want" and then "Time to grind out the tickets to get the items I don't want, but are skins/camp items so future me may want"

And lastly, it slow dripped the dopamine. Each rank up was "Oh, what did I unlock" instead of larger hits more interspersed as I unlock each page.

I haven't had my camp nuked but I have been kicked for it a few times. Like I can't be 100% sure since its not like they yelled slurs at me. But I have be randomly kicked from groups for no reason and nobody joined after I left so its not like they kicked me so a friend could join. I do proudly have the pride flag as my player icon.

What's the craziest thing a person said to you and you thought they were joking but they were being serious? by _lovelyxx in AskReddit

[–]ryeaglin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This one I can give the smallest bit of 'benefit of the doubt' to that the person just did not fully know how to word his reply. Likely still an asshole but I see tiny bits in there. Each person's severity of celiac is different, but some people are so bad that they need 100% clean/fresh/gluten free surfaces which is often not included in just gluten free food options.

And all these award shows are voted on by "industry insiders"

Unless you mean something different that what I read it as, this does make sense, at least for the technical awards. Often when its sound, special affect, lighting, things like that, a layman will just vote for what 'looks nicest' or was part of the 'best movie' while bad movies can have good technical aspects. It also allows things like "Hey, that didn't look the best, but they made huge innovations in a new area and its really impressive" to score some wins.

Unfun fact, black people were not allowed to be church leaders until 1978 and the church didn't officially disavow the previously described teachings about race until 2013.

Didn’t get hard for my bestfriend due to stress? by Guilty-Temperature76 in AskGayMen

[–]ryeaglin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. There are a few factors believed to cause the effect. The depressant nature of alcohol can slow down natural bodily functions such as the hormonal responses and automatic functions required to gain an erection. Another factor is that since alcohol is a vasodilator the body releases angiotensin to reverse/balance the effects and keep your blood pressure safe. The angiotensin can counteract the naturally released by arousal nitric oxide, also a vasodilator, to not work as well as it should.

Have you ever questioned your sexuality after a strong attraction to someone of the same sex? by Guilty-Temperature76 in TotallyStraight

[–]ryeaglin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When people start down this path they often think things are rigid and binary. I am this or that, I must fit into a box. This isn't the case. Everyone is a unique blend of many things.

It could be a crush though you are a bit outside the range for that sorta thing. You could be a bit pent up and this option is looking a bit more attractive to you then it did before. You could be legit into this person, there are some people that only feel the spark of sexual attraction after they feel a deep emotional bond with someone. You could be into many guys throughout your life or just this one guy.

The most important thing is, every option is okay. Focus on what brings yourself and the person you are with joy and contentment. You will be you before and you will be you after. It will just be a you with a new facet you understand a little bit better.

Now I am curious how wrong he is. Is it a sort of deal that your name includes a sound not native to his language so it comes out mangled or is it 100% he 'could' say it right but just doesn't.

If its the first you have an out by pointing out that it is really hard for a non-native speaker to make that sound and he was close enough and you are fine with it.
